Is this a glimpse of India's test future?

From the performance of the Indian test team in this series so far we can come to the conclusion that a) Indian Bowling is pedestrian, poor spin and pace attack is totoally dependent on an un-reliable Zaheer Khan. B) After Sachin, Lax n Dravid retire in a year or 2 there will be a big hole in the middle order. The present batting generation (from what i have seen) bats in ODI and T20 mode and is theoretcally not suited to test cricket. Come to think of it, India's rise in Test cricketing cirlces was primarliy due to Sachin, Saurav, Dravid, Sehwag and Kumble. Harbhajan sparked in a few test matches too. I cant remember much about bowling, well mainly because i have a bad memory may be. The rest seemed to have flattered to deceive, coming to the fore with good performances and then fading away. Case in point are Ishant, Sreeshant, Irfan and break-down-nehra etc. ------------------------- I do see some good batsmen in the horizon..aka Pujara, Vijay, Dhawan, Rayudu, but i am no cricket whiz and may have totally misjudged the capacities of these players. Of the bowlers i see a Unadkat and may-be-possibly-if-n-buts-Yadav, no onse else. I have no clue if Ashwin is a test match bowlers. ------------------------- So as a ordinary-normal Indian fan i am very in favor of transfering my allegiance to the ODI/T20 genres. Somehow i dont want to kid myself with high expectations for our country's test future. ------------------------- For now I will enjoy the Sachin-Sehwag-Dravid show. (P.s am not a fan of Laxman, sorry)

No, dont draw conclusions from a couple of tests. This question mark on India's bowlers have been hanging for a long time. In the mean while, our bowlers have done enough to take up to no1. The question of the inevitable doom after the retirement of the fav four has been there for sometime. Our ODI unit adjusted well with the changes.

Nice post domaink, i like your positive attitude that we will find suitable replacements. ok India has started to bat, so i cut short my post, see u later then. P.S, i may come back here soon if a wicket falls

Well I'm not so worried about our batting. Between Pujara/Vijay and Badrinath we would be okay. Not great but okay as long as guys like Gambhir/Sehwag stay in good touch. The problem is going to be the development of young bowlers after Zaheer retires in two years or so. None of our fast bowlers look capable right now and the selectors/BCCI/coaches have two years to develop that talent from a group of 6/7 contenders.

What ridiculous over reacting going on here. I think last time we toured here Sana got treble ton and they ammassed 900 odd and smashed us in test series. End result, we went on to be number 1 in test rankings.

LMAO you guys are taking these flat tracks too seriously. This is the same ground where Sri Lanka scored 952 runs in 1997 against us. What a boring match that was. :wall: Open threads like these when Indian bowlers concede more than 500 runs in Eng, NZ, Aus or South Africa consistently.

The batting should be ok, as Fontaine says. GG has a few years left in him and Pujara, Kohli and Rahane should hopefully be test class batsmen, with batting conditions generally easy the world over they dont need to be Dravids and Laxmans. Ishant RPS and Sreesanth are still in their early to mid 20s and these guys have shown they can win us test matches. As others have said they can retain that in conditions that favour them hopefully The spin dept is more worrying.

Srisanth is 28 something now :giggle: You ain't going nowhere with such a depleted pace attack.. Ishanth - RPS - Sreesanth is as lethal a combo as Rampaul - Bravo - Sammy :cantstop: And these so called test quality called batsmen will get heavily exposed in English Aussie and SAF wickets. That's where we're gonna miss Dravid, VVS. (not even mentioning Tendy). If they can match their skill and temperament, then fine. And spin department, we haven't even seen enough of guys like Mishra and Ojha, so too early to predict. Can't judge them on the basis of a couple of tests.

Well I agree somewhat. There simply aren't any real test calibre bowlers that can consistently do well on flat pitches apart from Steyn and maybe one or two others. The rest of the bowlers worldwide all need assistance of some kind. Where Ishant/Pathan/Sreesanth need to improve is their consistency and accuracy so that when conditions do suit them they are in position to take full advantage. It's anyone's guess whether they can develop those skills.

Well, that's why Tour A/First class matches are so vital, so important. It's of paramount importance that 1. We expose the next generation as much as we can to foreign conditions in SA/Aus/Eng. It was great to see how well Pujara did in the recent tour to England. We need more of that. 2. The pitch conditions in India need to continue to improve. There has been some improvement on bowler friendly conditions but more needs to be done so that domestic level batsmen don't get a huge shock when thrust into a test line up playing in places like Perth/Headingly etc.

i hope the selectors play smart n phase the seniors out gradually.wat i dread is a situation where all the seniors go at the same time,n r replaced by noobs who are clueless n have no one to guide them.thats why i think they should give chances to Rohit/Rahane/Kohli/Pujara NOW.they have great potential to be good test batsmen if given proper guidance.i think we r wastiing time with Yuvraj or even Raina

no, its not. it merely a glimpse of test cricket in sri lanka. flat, lifeless pitches where the home side will pile on the runs early and thus inflate the averages of their abysmally poor batsmen.

Squad selection was main reason. India lacked swing bowlers or seam bowlers. If you look at India's series win against SL in India it was Zak and Sree who set up the win for us. Take them out. Rest of the attack was pedestrian.

well if we plan well we will do well. I still have high hopes on Ishant, Sreesanth and RP Singh. This guys have to work hard, cut out non sense and go back to basics. We have Pujaras, Rahanes, Rainas, Pandeys, Vijays, Rohits, Virats etc. as backup, we need 3 of them to become world class. And for that we need to plan, send to foreign tours, let them play county cricket etc.
