Clayton Bigsby Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Retired spin great Muttiah Muralitharan on Wednesday lashed out at his long-time detractor Bishen Singh Bedi, calling the former Indian captain a controversy monger and ordinary bowler who would have been hammered by any batsman if was he playing now. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Muralitharan-slams-Bedi-calls-him-controversy-monger/Article1-578911.aspx
asterix Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Uncharacteristic..as far a Murali's concerned..Bit below the belly shot terming Bedi as 'ordinary'. Hope Bedi takes these comments 'sportingly' just like Murali has taken Bedi's comments so far..
saneindian Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 About time this happened. Bedi has had far too many personal attacks on Murali for last decade or so.
achilles Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 In response to Murali's attack- Bedi: Don't want to stoop to Murali's level 28 Jul 2010, 1551 hrs IST Former Indian cricket captain Bishen Singh Bedi has reacted to retired spin great Muttiah Muralitharan's recent criticism of his bowling, saying he would not like to rise to his bait, but re-asserted his position that the bowler was a 'chucker'. Muralitharan on Wednesday (July 28) lashed out at his long-time detractor Bishen Singh Bedi, calling the former Indian captain a controversy monger and ordinary bowler who would have been hammered by any batsman if was he playing now. Reacting to his statements, Bedi when interviewed by TIMES NOW said, "Who said I was a spinner. I am nothing. I don't know why or whether he said those things because he is angry. I have not called him a chucker, he is a chucker," Bedi said laughing. He added, "I am not legendary. I don't want to say anything more, I do not want to stoop to his level." Bedi has been an untiring critic of Muralitharan by repeatedly calling the Sri Lankan a "chucker" and asking the ICC to ban the Sri Lankan's "doosra" as it was illegal. Muralitharan, who retired last week after completing 800 Test wickets at Galle against India, made an uncharacteristic attack on Bedi, saying that he was just an ordinary bowler. Asked about the lack of world-class spinners in India, except for Harbhajan Singh, Muralitharan said Bedi was not in the league B S Chandrasekhar, Srinivas Venkataraghavan and Erapalli Prasanna. "Bedi, I don't think he does not even come to a contest on that. I saw some (of his) bowling of his playing days. In modern era, if he plays he will get hammered every ball, that is what will happen. So no comparison," the world's most successful spinner said. Source Steve Waugh has openly supported Murali slamming Bedi saab. I'm sorry to say that Bedi saab is losing all his respect among peers and his pessimistic approach towards a lot of things might harm him in the long run.
Serani Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 This Bedi just seems like a bitter old man in pretty much every comment he makes, Indian Bob Willis. Shame Murali has reacted after all the years of ignoring him.
Tendulkar_Bhai Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Never really followed this story but sounds like Bedi is jealous of Murali and fact he took spin bowling to a different level, Murali has every right to give it back.
coffee_rules Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Muralitharan is far from truth when he says Bedi was ordinary. He was the highest wktaker for India until KDN. He has a decent away record probably than Murali. He was useful tailender, sometimes saving matches when the top order collapsed. Murali's comments are totally coming from non-cricketing reasons. Stupid chucker.
Serani Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 You have to be really patriotic to defend Bedi here, he has been making these hating comments on Murali for his whole career its about time Murali put this has been in his place.

Atleast Bedi was criticising Murali's ability in cricket. cricket laws are being amended to accomodate the drawbacks of a cricketer. It's not right. I am not defending senile Bedi, but he is right to call Murali a cheating chucker.
achilles Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 No man with self-respect can tolerate persistent nonsense like this for 15 years. Murali did and that is why he is a Legend. Also, 9/10 people are going to support Murali on this.

Tapioca Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 He (Bedi) did not have any variation. He just bowled left arm spin and pitch did the variation for him. That is what he bowled," he said. Murali knows ****** all about Bedi's bowling. He should have kept his mouth shut than talking bull for the sake of it.

Murali in Aus/NZ: in Oceania 11 42 35.80 Bedi in Aus/NZ: in Oceania 13 55 26.40 Look who is ordinary!

Rajiv Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Bedi is class act Idiot, he didn's pare anyone, was even trying to even appease paks back in 2004
King Tendulkar Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Really dont blame murali for this out of character out burst!
King Tendulkar Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Although have to admire Bedi for saying it how he sees it. Rather then usual boring PC clap trap
coffee_rules Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 What does that matter? That Murali doesn't what he is talking about. First he said Bhajji is the only one who can beat his record. With 1 wkt in 2 tests, Bhajji is nowhere near that man. Murali should have called Bedi a sathiyagaya senile vengeful old man and not a ordinary bowler. That would have been more credible.
