b555 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 for god`1s sake the time they took captaincies were different and both did well in a different way why comparision
saneindian Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Why do we have to compare successfull captains from India? Each of them have played a part in taking us to where we are. Under Azhar we became home bullies, under Ganguly we started to draw series outside the subcontinet, under Dravid we finally won a test series outside the sub continent , Kumble led us admirably during the tough period of the Sydney saga and Dhoni has carried forward the legacy by buidling onto those successes. Each of them has been successful in his own way and will have a special place in our cricket history.
Andy Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 for god`1s sake the time they took captaincies were different and both did well in a different way why comparision  Finally a true Follower of GOD comes and talks some sense.

don_corleone840 Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 Andy dravid can hardly be considered as player now.he is just a liability. as far as sehwag is concerened, he was in form even during gangu captaincy. he had a pleasure of having greatest match winner india ever had(anil kumble) soo team under ganguly captaincy was better than this one.but dut to his poor captaincy we lost chance of beating aus in aus.Dhoni is far better captain than gangu.
saneindian Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 well said.nice that u mentioned Kumble n Dravid too' date='i think they r underrated n never talked about wen talking about captains,i dont think they were as bad[/quote'] WI and Eng series were won under Dravid, that test vs SA in SA was won under Dravid, those wins alone make him a very fine captain. For Kumble, well the statesmanship he showed during Sydneygate alone is equal to 5 test wins! Any captaincy discussion without mentioning their contribution will always be incomplete IMO.
don_corleone840 Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 top ten captains(tests) 1 M.s dhoni 2 Rahul dravid 3 Pataudi 4 gangu
ZodiaC Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 saourav was most and stupid captain india ever had.even dravid was better captain than him.He was lucky that most of the players like dravid' date='kumble, laxman, sachin and bhajji were at their prime ot his captaincy.Even than he never won single test series outside sub-continent. [/quote'] That's the most rubbish and biased argument I've ever heard. In every match someone performs and wins the match for ya, so when Dhoni does it's his pure captiancy skills and when dada does it it's luck? :hysterical: Dude you're something. And how many test series did sir Dhoni win outside sub continent? looking at dhoni dravid is in worst form of his life. Obviously, because he failed in 3 tests and had a horrendous series in 2009 averaging a meagre 83. sehwag is looking better bowler than bhaji In one series vs Srilanka, where he didn't even play in the dust bowl. no kumble Granted. pathetic pace bowing attack It was then too. Almost every bowlers were newbies. Except srinath. Now it's Zak, and other newbies. injury to key players. Again, only in this series. Srilanka had no murali while we won too. and still we are winning winning and winning.we have not lost series in past 27 months. Yeah, we've played only 2 series away from home, the mighty new zealand and Sri lankans. :two_thumbs_up: Dude, we were in a period of transition while Dada took captiancy. While dhoni has the luxury of all our senior players bar kumble and dada himself. And how about the quality of cricketers? Now don't tell me Clarke > Waugh, Doughie>Mcgrath and Steve Smith > Warne :giggle:
Andy Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Andy dravid can hardly be considered as player now.he is just a liability. Shal i show his stats of last two test series? as far as sehwag is concerened' date=' he was in form even during gangu captaincy.[/quote'] He played as a middle order batsman for the most part of Ganguly's captaincy tenure. And he made his debut in 2001. Till then Ganguly completed 1 year as a captain. he had a pleasure of having greatest match winner india ever had(anil kumble) Yes offcourse i wont disagree to that. But Kuble wasnt going through tha same kind of form as he was in last 4-5 years. soo team under ganguly captaincy was better than this one.but dut to his poor captaincy we lost chance of beating aus in aus.Dhoni is far better captain than gangu. Nah Team was never as good as this team, particularly batting wise. And mind you We played the best ever Ozi team in Aus. I'll see what dhoni does in SA. If Dhoni manges to even draw series in SA i'll call him a beter captain.
Andy Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I don't ever see Dhoni' date=' as a skipper, chickening out of a contest because of a tinge of grass on the pitch. That alone would put Dhoni miles ahead in my book.[/quote'] Yes agreed. But talking about Tactics, Dhoni is dumb 'These days'
Lord Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I don't ever see Dhoni' date=' as a skipper, chickening out of a contest because of a tinge of grass on the pitch. That alone would put Dhoni miles ahead in my book.[/quote'] how do u know Ganguly chickened out bcoz of the pitch?becoz a random new report said that?he didnt play next match either n that was a dustbowl
Andy Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Yes, he had a stomach bug. :giggle: PS: I also have a white marble building for sale in Agra. :hysterical: Lets not talk on the basis of Rumours. If he didnt play the next match how can he chickened Out?:--D
Lord Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Yes, he had a stomach bug. :giggle: PS: I also have a white marble building for sale in Agra. :hysterical: presumably,he was angry bcoz of not getting the home advantage.it wasnt bcoz of the pitch?u act as if he has never played on a green top

saneindian Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Yes agreed. But talking about Tactics' date=' Dhoni is dumb 'These days'[/quote'] Talking of tactics no Indian captain has been a Benaud or a Border or a Steve Waugh. Dada was a "instinctive" captain, Dravid and Kumble were more methodical and now MSD too is more of an instinctive captain. Dhoni does appear to be tactically naive these days, but trust me Dada or for that any other Indian captain, too have had their fair share of prolonged period of test matches where they were tactically naive. So putting one against the other and pointng to their deficiencies is not going to get you anywhere.

Agreed, But Dhoni is a very arrogant captain who goes with the same team after losing the previous match. And i dont support That. I dont think Dravid, Sourav or even Kumble would have done that.
ZodiaC Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Yes, he had a stomach bug. :giggle: PS: I also have a white marble building for sale in Agra. :hysterical: I've posted last time when we were arguing on the same. http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/content/story/142857.html
Lord Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Exactly my point. A leader is not meant to get 'angry' like a school girl when things don't go his way and quit. Puts him in the league of Afretard. Ouch' date=' that'll hurt![/quote'] so,u expect him to take whatever crap BCCI dishes out?Dada was a sort of person who'd fight for his players,n fight to get the things done the right way the pitch was a green top becoz of internal politics of BCCI?if the curator just gifts a test to the Aussies due to the politics,u expect Ganguly to take that quietly? n Afretard comparison is stupid?he quit first bcoz he wasnt captain, now he quit becoz he realised hes crap
Roshanrocks Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 yea of course and ponting is a better captain than steve waugh because he won more world cups
