His ODI performance has been good - no issues there. But a guy who has played two Test matches to be named in the Cricketer of the Year nominees is laughable.

I find these long list nominations to be just wind ups. All they do is fill up column spaces. I mean, cricket is a sport played by 8 countries, surely it can't be that hard to come up with a shorter list of 4-5 players as the nominations at the very get go.

A lot of joke nominations from Australia and that shouldn't surprise anyone one bit. One bad year from Gautam Gambhir and he's out of the list, while- Ricky Ponting & Morne Morkel are nominated for the "Cricketer of the Year" award. Simon Katich for "Test Player of the Year". Ryan Harris for "Cricketer & ODI player of the year". Cameron White for "ODI player of the year". Doug Bollinger in all 3 categories. What kind of a sick joke is this? And Where is Graeme Swann? Why do we even call the ICC Awards? Why not call it the "Australian Cricket Awards"? I am not aware of the time period taken into account for these awards but you could always consult with Statsguru for a rough guide. Being a reasonably safe keeper, leading the Indian side to Number 1 in the rankings and scoring more than 750 runs in the last 11 matches at an average of 68 sounds good enough for me.

Is captaincy and stuff taken into account? I didn't know that. And if it's based on solely averages and not outs, every tom dick and Samaraweera would sneak into that list. Edit: Oh, he's in there, so I withdraw my statement. :--D
