NO, we don't. Tell me something. Has Aamir or any of the other accused players come out and defended themselves? Have they honestly and openly talked about whether they did this or not? NO, they're hiding behind a wall of lawyers, PCB, ICC etc. .
When an allegation is made on an employee of a company and the law enforcement agencies are involved that is the way it is, the press officer for the company speaks to the media, and the employees ' lawyer may speak not the employee. Law enforcement & also the company may conduct an internal investigation (although in the case of PCB this exercise is pointless) before taking any action on the concerned employee.

Ofcourse they are only allegations right now. But what you're talking about is a criminal matter where the penalties range from fines to prison time. These players are not facing criminal charges but failure to comply to standards and rules set in a sporting body where yes, absolutely, you expect players to be upfront and honest about what has happened.

Pakistan court summons cricketers for treason LAHORE: A Pakistan court on Tuesday summoned seven national cricket players, the country's sports minister and its cricket chief to face treason charges over fixing allegations in England. The chief justice of the High Court in the eastern city of Lahore said those under investigation in England, plus sports minister Ijaz Jakharani and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt must appear on September 7. Local lawyer Ishtiaq Ahmed filed the treason case on Monday, calling for life bans and confiscation of all the players' assets if they are found guilty. The charge carries a maximum death penalty. The cricketers are alleged to have been paid to bowl no-balls at pre-determined times in a spot-fixing scam in the fourth Test against England, which Pakistan lost by an innings on Sunday. Usually in Pakistan, court procedures are long and decisions takes years while a legal expert said if the accused fail to appear three times in a row a ruling could be made in absentia. "The case is based only on allegations. We do not expect a hurried decision," Azhar Siddique, a local lawyer said. The seven national team players include Test team captain Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamer, plus three unnamed players, who are all accused in the sting by British Sunday tabloid the News of the World. Police have bailed a bookmaker, Mazhar Majeed, who is alleged to be the middleman in the scam.

Sez who, if there is evidence of an attempt to defraud book makers - thats the charge that was brought on the mazhar guy, they will face criminal charges in the UK, although it looks unlikely because it will be hard for Scotland Yard to prove it if none of these bookmakers are in the UK.

1.07pm: Here's some more on the summons received by the players accused of spot-fixing (see 1.02pm) from the Pakistan authorities, courtesy of the Guardian's cricket writer, David Hopps: The captain Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir are both due to checkout of their Taunton hotel today and make the three-hour journey. Yawar Saeed, Pakistan's team manager, said: "The High Commissioner has asked me to send them. I can't say much more. the whole world knows why they are going." The request to travel to the High Commision emphasises the close personal interest being taken in the cricket fixing allegations by Pakistan's president Asif Ali Zardari. The players are expected to be presented with evidence that purports to show their involvement in illegal betting scams. This is insane, how could they possibly pick the same guys tainted by the spot-fixing scandal, for the ODIs and T20s? Sure, they’re innocent till proven guilty, but there’s enough indications out there to suggest that rules/ethics have been violated to at least a warrant a suspension till the charges are proven to be false. Even in corporate, when top level mgmt are accused to fraud/corruption, they’re first suspended with or without pay, an inquiry is conducted and action taken based on that .The suspension is so that they don’t influence the investigation. As it stands today, there’s a huge spot-fixing cloud hanging over Butt, Asif and Aamer. For you all you know, they might still be in touch with bookies and fixing matches (highly unlikely, but probably scenario). For the tour to retain any sense of integrity, the tainted players MUST be replaced from the squad.

ISI officers will meet the 3 players in the Pak High Commission to train them properly on 'Methods to come out of a messy situation'. I'm pretty sure Pak players' date=' and the match fixers will come out unscathed unless ICC has other ideas.[/quote'] absolutely possible-Their interior minister Rahmaan Malik whose favourite pastime is to blame RAW & India for all the ills plaguing Pakistan, has already spun the conspiracy web... now their entire team of legal experts, crook bureucrats would do everything possible to armtwist and browbeat ICC to stand down from a ban or hoodwink ICC by claiming PCB will have the jurisdiction to ban the players!!! am not surprised one bit, half the pakis still believe that 9/11 was a conspiracy by CIA + Israel to blame Al-Qaida /Taliban and they have their best spinmasters enthralling TV audiences that 26/11 mumbai attack was a RAW conspiracy to blame the pure state of Pakistan!
