The games will be a success. We have 10 days till they start. The heat is on but we will deliver. The games will alright, just have a feeling. 10 days in India is like 2 months in another country
It is a given. It is our nature, when we have fire under our asses we always will deliver, but that does not change the fact that this was shambolic and the world has seen the mess and that is what will be more vividly remember even if we deliver a good games.

BUT if in 10 days everything is pretty much ok and athletes have a decent stay and go back saying that "actually I was quite nervous after media reports but it wasn't that bad after all and I enjoyed the experience" Then some reputation may be salvaged and we may have something to crow about. Then a counter offensive can be launched saying problems were over hyped and we did a good job!:--D We will get it right as wake up call has come in time. Athletes will go away saying it was ok:isalute: Also expectations are minus 100 so even if we produce anything over zero we will give good feeling:--D

Sigh.. blaming the politicians will only go so far. That is looking at the symptoms but not the cause. Sure, fire these politicians and leaders. What will we get next ? Some non-corrupt guys who are efficient and know how to plan ? Or are our standards so low, that we are OK with politicians and leaders taking their cut as long as they can deliver ? If the answer is yes, then this is Institutional failure plain and simple. We have some really smart people in our land. It is high time we start demanding higher standards all around. What gets delivered doesn't have to be "glitzy", but it has to be solid.

Good wake-up call. I might be way off the mark here, but if you want to surround yourself with the highest standards of hygiene, cleanliness, entertainment, and amenities in India you really need to check into a 5 star hotel. Did we really expect India to build a 5 star village?

No, we didn't expected. But we also didn't expected the filth, stray dogs on beds, Paan stains etc. But the main issue is the whopping Rs 70,000 Crores expenditure. We want some accountability after the games.

India bribed 72 nations to get Delhi CWG India bribed 72 Commonwealth countries $100,000 each to get the hosting rights for the scandal-hit 19th edition of the Games which will start in Delhi from October 3-14, a media report claimed in Melbourne on Thursday. A report in the Daily Telegraph claimed that Delhi pipped Hamilton in the bid after offering huge sums of money to the 72 Commonwealth countries during the final presentation in Jamaica. The report also said that Australia received a kickback of $125,000 from India. "Delhi sealed the right to host the Games when their delegates emerged at the final presentation in Jamaica and offered all 72 nations $100,000 (then about $140,000) each for athlete training schemes if they were the successful bidders," the newspaper reported. "The money, subsequently paid to all nations, was not significant to Australia because it had already decided to vote for India and the payment was not an exceptionally large one. "But for small nations who have minimal interest in the Games, it clinched their vote and India went on to beat Canadian city Hamilton 46-22 in the final poll. Hamilton had offered the nations about $70,000 each," it said. http://www.hindustantimes.com/specials/sports/cwg-2010/India-bribed-72-nations-to-get-Delhi-CWG-Report/sport/SP-Article10-603861.aspx WTF

Don't think bribing is that a big deal to secure hosting rights. At the moment, everyone is "working hard" to secure hosting rights for 2018 and 2022 soccer WC :winky:

Games Village much more acceptable now, say CWG teams New Delhi: After all the panic in the last few weeks, Thursday saw a turnaround of sorts for the organisers of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. It seems the handing of the Games Village over to the Delhi government galvanised the workforce and inspired such confidence that at least three contingents now say the condition in the Village is much more acceptable now. England, Wales, Australia, Scotland and Canada have finally stopped dithering and will be at the Games after all. The British and Canadian teams arrive today. England decided to participate in the Commonwealth Games following reports from New Delhi that the improved level of arrangements will be in place shortly. "Our Delhi team is seeing the improved levels of resourcing required to resolve the operational issues. We'll monitor the situation to ensure the village and stadia are safe," Commonwealth Games England said in a statement. The England team decided to travel to Delhi after "unanimously" agreeing the decision with its 17 member sports. England's men hockey team will stay at a holding camp after reaching Delhi early today, before moving into the Games Village. The England statement came a few hours after their Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland counterparts revealed their teams would be travelling to Delhi as scheduled. Wales chief Anne Ellis said they were convinced by the assurances given by the CWG organisers to CGF that all glitches will be fixed in time. (Watch - Wales: There's been improvement at the Village) Ellis added, "We're satisfied that everything is ready. A week ago it was like a building site, although most of it was cosmetic work, there were serious problems with plumbing and electricity. "But that wasn't in the village. The food zone has been ready for some time, the international zone has been up and running and our tower block, which we went into last week with our advance party, has been turned round and is now comfortable for our athletes." Scotland, which has already delayed the departure of its athletes, also came out with positive signals, saying that it was "heartened" by the progress made by the organisers. The Scottish official also issued a statement in which they expressed happiness that the state government of the host city was putting up efforts to clear the mess. "We are heartened that Sheila Dikshit has personally taken control of the situation and ensuring that the necessary additional resources are brought in," Jon Doig, who is Team Scotland's representative in Delhi, said in a statement. Australian CWG Association chief Perry Crosswhite also said the condition of the Games Village is "acceptable" as of now and also confirmed arrival of their contingent for the Games. "Conditions at the Commonwealth Games Village are acceptable. Things are getting better every time. The residential towers at the Village are improving. However, water at the basement inside the Village is a bit of a concern to us," Crosswhite said at a media conference. "But Delhi CM has directed the concerned authorities to clean it up by tonight and we think the assurance given to us will be fulfilled," he said. He also assured that Australian contingent would reach the capital on September 27. In New Delhi on Thursday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with union ministers and others involved in the sporting event. The meeting came two days after international delegates lambasted the Games Village as "filthy and uninhabitable."
