fineleg Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Given the confusions of Dhoni (several keeping mistakes - catch drops, stumping misses), now the runout confusion - I wonder if the CSK/CL matches going on so late and so close to the Aus tour meant he had ZERO time to unwind and re-focus for the Tests. He just came in weary and no mental rest into the Test series. I hate these frikkin Useless 20-20s scheduled like this. At least our players should Opt-Out, but they wont :(( so BCCI need to pull players out! None of that will happen. So, what if CSK crashed out and not even entered semis, would have meant zilch squat. The test series with Aus was 1000 times more important for Dhoni and Raina.

A guy like Romesh Powar wouldn't even be allowed inside the stadium of most sport. :winky:

The nature of the game, the amount of skills and parts of the body involved, the varying interactions between the ball, pitch and even the air, the vastly differing conditions (even on a day to day basis) etc. - all these are unmatchable. Thing is Romesh Powar may not want to visit those stadiums :). He is a cricketer. No sporting activity matches Test cricket - in breadth, scope or drama.

The reference to Powar (there are others like Yuvi, RS) was to show how cricket is the only sport played by unfit players who can't even bend, which doesn't make for a good watch, unless ofc you accept it like most cricket fans have.

Tell me this - since when has physical fitness alone been the determining factor when talking about execution of necessary sporting skills? A Romesh Powar can still turn in a tantalizing spell of off spin bowling. As for fielding, again cricket is unique in having three different disciplines. Fielding has always been the 3rd discipline and I dont see it changing. That apart - the fact that cricket has varying natures of wickets, varying quality and type of balls etc. etc. all count in its favour. They are all unique. There is no parallel. Tennis comes a little close given that the game is played on three different surfaces. As they say, close but no cigar. Test cricket and its possibilities have no parallel.
