beetle Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 more on this.... http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL1010/S00040/gordon-campbell-on-the-paul-henry-saga.htm So far, the best analysis of Henry’s style and personality would still be Linley Boniface’s brilliant column from last year: …should further staff redundancies be necessary, [TVNZ] could seamlessly replace its current Breakfast host with a freshly captured gibbon without significantly lowering the quality of its journalism. Indeed, watching a jungle creature let loose on the set of Breakfast would give viewers roughly the same frisson of appalled fascination that many of us already experience while watching Paul Henry in action. Will the set be trashed? Will there be humping of the furniture? Will guests have their hair lovingly combed through for nits, or be spat at? :two_thumbs_up:
Rajiv Posted October 10, 2010 Author Posted October 10, 2010 He resigned http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10679561
DomainK Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I don't care about Sheila Dixit. But that's Madhuri's surname
yoda Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Guess the guy decided he can't change himself and hence has to leave the show. Not sure why he can't tone down his stereotyping and still be funny. People seem to like him based on user comments and it can't be just for the cr@p.
Rajiv Posted October 10, 2010 Author Posted October 10, 2010 He got fired, it was to save face that he was told to tender his resignation.
DomainK Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Guess the guy decided he can't change himself and hence has to leave the show. Not sure why he can't tone down his stereotyping and still be funny. People seem to like him based on user comments and it can't be just for the cr@p. That is what is worrying. It's not just an individual's comment. The society seems to like that garbage. There should have been some law against racism. This man should have been handed a warning by a court of law or some fine. The same should have been done to the channel as the host essentially represents the channel. But what could be done to those who supported him over the whole episode? NZ has some serious issues to sort out.
Rajiv Posted October 10, 2010 Author Posted October 10, 2010 Its NZ national Channel and by far most breakfast shows around the globe have this wake-me-up-couple-spiced-up-gossip stuff, something which goes well with goras and I am sure India is catching up too. Paul Henry ( after reading about him ) has made far worse comments about sexuality amongst others things and many were angry that why NOW? so I guess, it was a build up. If you look at him, he almost looks likes a person who was beaten up as a child and acquired fame by some cheap jokes which seem to please some bored individuals. 1 mistake in life is enough to ruin you
IT_Anxiety_NJIT Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I hope no TV company hire this idiot.
99.94 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Ok he is clearly racist based on both the video clip and news article. It is interesting to see the comments on that article page where people seem to think what he said was what most Nz-landers wanted to say but were afraid to. For some reason I thought Nz-landers weren't as bigoted as the Aussies' date=' guess I was wrong.[/quote'] Who cares? Her name has a funny meaning in English.. he's not the first person to think that.
Rajiv Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 Its DIXIT - it's pronounced Diks-it, not Dik n **** or Dip ****, but there many names which can be twisted for a giggle. I think it was more to do with the line that Dik and **** sounds appropriate coz she is Indian. So I guess every time they say the name DICK - it should give em a chuckle too.
yoda Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Who cares? Her name has a funny meaning in English.. he's not the first person to think that. Did you even see the full clip or did you even read this thread? You will learn he said more than just make fun of her name alone. To help you, here is one the posts which refers to above: You missed the point. Finding the name funny is fine. But he followed it up with' date=' she is an Indian so she must be the same[/quote']
Ram Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I didn’t really want to do this, but this guy’s hypocrisy is too irresistible! :haha: Fakey by day; wtf are you on crack? A person should be judged by their talent and skill NOT by their name. Every person coming from different cultural background has names related to the culture and language they are born into and one should be proud of it. NASA named Chandra the telescope after Subramanyam Chandrashekar who's an Indian American physicist...there are highly skilled, talented Indians all over the world becoming CEOs, CFOs, managers, presidents w/o changing their identities and that's how it's ought to be. It's self hating dipsh!ts like you who try to mirror themselves with others in hopes of becoming one of them whilst they fail to see how those others view them despite the change of name, lifestyle, clothes, dressing sense....I used to see Indian guys in high school here trying to wear beads and necklace and wearing Abercrombie n Fitch trying to imitate others and having this false sense of being one of them whilst clearly missing the indignation and mocking that went on behind their backs...no matter how much you change you will ALWAYS be seen as Indian. Sounds impressive right? Just look at fakey plumping for Indians and the Indian culture! ‘We shouldn’t try to copy the Western culture, we should just be us..’ he seems to say… But here’s the same fakey by night, when his guard is obviously a lot lower; desi guys are so immatured... I see these samples hanging around work with their cheap walmart jeans and white snickers...oily combed hair and "vaats up" accent thinking they are studs and can score all the white chicks...probably goes home and jerks off to Sridevi wearing a bikini http://indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=169796 This time around Our Indian culture, with the ‘vaats up’ accent, cheap jeans and oily hair is not so cool eh? :haha: So lets get this straight – If a New Zealander mocks Indians, its racism. But if fakey mocks Indians, its because they’re just not ‘cool’ enough. :hysterical: Dude, seriously, how long are you going to run this double act of yours? Or are rehearsing your duplicity for your election campaign in 2020, saying one thing in public and meaning something else in private? :hysterical:
