Zap_Brannigan Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Congrats BD!! Finally they won something. Feels bad for NZ losing. Where are the Bangla bashers hiding now? The guys who dont lose a second to call for B'desh expulsion from international cricket every time they lost? Most of the bashers including me call for it to be expelled from test playing nations. When we have Ireland, kenya, Zim , Netherlands as ODI nations, BD is not at the bottom of the list in ODIs. Does this win suddenly make their appalling test records better? Does it make their 50% innings defeats go away?
Ram Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Most of the bashers including me call for it to be expelled from test playing nations. When we have Ireland, kenya, Zim , Netherlands as ODI nations, BD is not at the bottom of the list in ODIs. Does this win suddenly make their appalling test records better? Does it make their 50% innings defeats go away? Pakistan has won 3 test matches in the last 3 years, do you want them to be expelled too? How about the West Indies? they've won only 3 test matches in the last FIVE years, which is only ONE more than the matches B'desh has won in the same time period. I am no fan of the Bangladesh cricket team nor do I think they pose any serious threat to us, but I think you're missing the point when it comes to the B'desh team. They're up and coming team, still in their first decade of international test cricket. It takes time to find 11 players of international standard. B'desh are getting there, though they havent reached there yet. And all it takes is only a couple of mediocre players among a team of 11 to lose a match, they probably have 4-5. More and more, this team is getting into winning position (like they did against in the 1st test of the series we played earlier this year), but they're not able to close out because their weak-links dont deliver when it matter. I am sure, going forward, they will find players to fill in the gaps and then, the results will start coming. Its only a matter of time, not if. We cannot drop them from the test group, especially not now when they're slowly making progress and we have persisted with them for so long. The question you should asking when it comes to B'desh is not whether they're winning matches or not, but whether overall, they're better as a team, than they were 3,5 years ago. The answer for that question is an emphatic 'Yes'. They have made measurable progress forward, while teams like Pakistan and West Indies have regressed alarmingly.

Its about how they are losing. Pretty much every game they play against the good teams, they have lost by an innings. It has taken them nearly 10 years to stop losing every game by an innings to almost by an innings. If Pak, NZ or WI reach that state, then they should be stripped off their test status too. Instead of making them a test nation and thus making it mandatory for other nations to play them in FTP, they should encourage BD to play the associate nations in tests and an occasional test series with top 8. Now, even when you watch any top 8 teams playing BD, it is clear that they all dont look at it competitively but more like a chore. How many tests have they played in the last year? Shouldnt they be playing more and against more opponents. What is stopping them from playing full 5 match series against the likes of Ireland, Netherlands etc.

Zero_Unit Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 holy crap. I was not following cricket much for a while but this from no where! Not sure about how the matches where so was it that NZ brought in a looser team (full of newbies) or is it that Bangla getting better? BTW if the same team comes to India for the series ... Sachin get ready to score your first 400 :)
The Dark Horse Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I think they are better than NZ, WI, Pak ATM. They have a good chance of making it to the semis of the WC since its played in the sub-continent.

[/quote'] Yes, they're losing, but so are other mainstream teams. But you cannot deny that they're making progress in finding some world class players. They found Shakib, who's one of the top all-rounders of the world, then they found Tamim, who has all the makings of an opener who could potentially average in the mid 40s. Plus, for the first time in their history, they at least have a semblance of a pace attack in Shafiul and Rubel. Sure, these two wont make too many opposition batsmen turn over uncomfortably in their beds, but they're at least half decent. Instead of making them a test nation and thus making it mandatory for other nations to play them in FTP, they should encourage BD to play the associate nations in tests and an occasional test series with top 8. Shouldnt they be playing more and against more opponents. What is stopping them from playing full 5 match series against the likes of Ireland, Netherlands etc. There's no point making B'desh play more against associate countries. What good is it going to them anyway? You improve by competing against someone who's better than you, not against someone who's weaker than you. IMO, B'desh are probably a solid middle order batsmen, one genuine swing bowler and a half decent spinner away from giving Tier II test nations like NZ, Pakistan and WI a genuine run for their money. They're already almost there, its only a matter of time before they do it. Its too late to take a step backward.

I know all the inbreeding makes you stupid but there are 8 test nations other than BD and not 4. Congratulations, it tool them only 50 tests to go from losing by an innings to losing by 7+ wickets or 100 runs.

But imo, they are still not good enough..it may take another decade and 50+ games to start winning one or two games. Till they reach that level, any game they play will always be looked down upon. They have played 50+ games. Can you guess the number of times they have lost by less than 100 runs or 7+ wickets? From their debut in 2000 to 2008, they have lost most of the games they have played by an innings. In the last 2 years they are just losing big and not by an innings. Is this improvement good enough for you?
Debutant Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Just a series win against a very week team and suddenly BD is a worldclass team.I dont understand this hype.Let them perform for at least a year then we can all say that BD have improved. It will be great to again have 3 great teams from Asia.

Well you are right in one way but everyone has to start somewhere. Whitewashing a team with better players/more maturity is no walk in the park. It must be that they are starting to get better. Maybe not there yet but STARTING just like SL did before they won the WC. It puts a smile on my face knowing that the 3 asian country are actualy getting better (excluding pakistan and their stupid dramas. They probably will be replaced by BD in the near futur if PCB don't fire that BUTT).
