flamy Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 OK, so I was watching Battlestar Galactica and in one of the episodes the humans had an option of totally eliminating the threat by using a virus to eliminate the enemy - the Cylons (genetically modified robots) I thought it was the obvious option, but there are some characters in the series that believed it not to be so. So, I ask, if there was an enemy who was hell bent on wiping out your own entire race, if you had the option of eliminating her race, would you?

Hiroshima and Nagasaki, although gruesome, ended the US vs Japan war and saved thousands of American soldiers at the costs of thousands of Japanese citizens. Knowing how cruel Japanese were in China and Korea, and how their citizens supported their emperor, i would easily take a similar action against such a country.

Ahinsa would certainly not work in this case, would it if the enemy is trying to wipe you out? You would not even get the chance to offer the second cheek to the enemy in this case. IMO, Ahinsa fails in situations like these... you're basically at the mercy of others. Its like another person has you by the throat and is strangling you. You think ahinsa would work in this scenario? NO!! You'd be run over and annihilated if you dont act in self defence:winky:

Sooda Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Hm. I dont remember that episode of BSG, but Ive only seen seasons 1-3 (and a while ago at that ) so could be in the final season ? Season 3 is just superb, need to watch the final one If I fancied a man it would be Lee Adama.

I would never hurt anybody if I am not harmed but if somebody becomes harms/becomes violent against me I would screw up his/her life. Till date I have never harmed or even hit anybody and hope that a day never comes when I would need to indulge in any sort of violence. Regarding whether I would commit genocide my answer would be a definite NO. I would screw up the enemy and go to any extent to destroy him/them but I would never harm or indulge in violence against any innocent person whoever he/she may be. Genocide would be elimination of a whole race which would also mean killing innocents and peace loving people of that race too and so it would be unethical. But I would for sure kill the violent ones amongst them.
