spectre Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Stats show Pathan is no better than Jadeja in the last 35 matches they have played. I dont understand why people harp for Pathan's comeback Except the wickets, all other stats ( Batting and bowling) are lot worse than Jadeja. So take your pick p.s I am not a fan of both players. saneindian Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 :banghead: Economy of 4.84 is nothing great for a bowler who can't get wickets. For someone who has bowled a no of overs in the powerplay overs after the pacers have been carted around, that economy has not been bad at all. He has been Dhoni's go to man during the Powerplay overs when the pacers have failed to give us a good start. Will dig some stats soon.

King Tendulkar Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 It is laughable that we are comparing RJ and IKP. Does anyone think Jadeja can come in at no 3 in a test and make 40+ versus Johnson, Lee, Tait and Clark? IS he capable of a test match century or a hat trick? Lest we forget Irfan was MotM in our best away win in a test match in recent years. There was a time under Greg when India were in red hot ODI form and Irfan was the best all rounder in the world, albeit very briefly. A quality natural swing bowler and good batsman. he had a good ranji season last year and hopefully will be back. He used to keep pitching it short and wide far too often and get smashed, just needs to stick to the basics keep it tight and he can be so good. Unfortunetly also he is far more reliant on conditions he bowls in that most, even more so than our other pacers. Both him and Kaif have been more unlucky rather than lack of quality on their part http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=180189&highlight=Kaif re: Kaif^^^. That is old but still hold true. He did not have a great Ranji season, but was in cracking form in the Duleep trophy incl a ton vs a strong South Zone. In fact he should have made the test squad vs SAffies last year instead of Rohit. Stopped reading after you started promoting Kaif!
Sooda Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 ^so you read most of my post, thanks :-P Do read the kaif bit too, the link I posted, its most informative.
King Tendulkar Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 ^so you read most of my post, thanks :-P I do generally.:--D But Kaif .....:headshake:
Sooda Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 :icflove: aw why thanks Seriously tho man, you judge Kaif a bit harshly. I think he has been unfairly treated, and explain why in the post below. This was on Sept 09 It wont make a jot of difference now as lets face it he will never play for India again, at least 3 batsman have come between him and an India spot since ...didnt make any challenger squads this year. Despite averaging 48 last year and 57 the year before in domestic cricket, let alone being the captain of one of the best state sides. I do think Kaif has been very harshly treated for a little while now. He was picked in a squad to play Seth Africa when SRT got injured last year but then dosent get in any further ones. Crapola gits like Badrinath get in the squad, who cant even score against emerging teams. Kaif meanwhile proves himself in tests in a crisis-as he did when he had a good series vs Aus in 04 which SHOULD have seen him play a bit more, But dropped again until that 91 versus England at Nagpur nearly 2 years later, followed by a good series in WI where he scored a pretty good ton and then is dropped for good to pave way for Ganguly. Yes the big names are all better batsmen. But surely he should be on the fringes, ahead of middle order candiddates like Badri He played well vs Aus in a tour match last year apparently with a new free-er scoring technique. So. Why not Kaif...?
someone Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 Never claimed he is a world class bat, just that as a batter -he is far better than Jadeja is, since we are makng a comparision here. I like Jadeja as an ODI bowler- great for 10 tight overs and he should be a regular in our one day lineup. But he is not a good ODI batsman, all the 50's you point to were not exactly great innings. As I said earlier, Irfan had a good Ranji season last year with bat and ball (though perhaps not enough to get him an India spot ) he had been unlucky since with injuries and can build on it now hopefully. No one in their right minds is suggesting he play for India as soon as he is fit (if he still injured) or play for India vs NZ or SA. He needs to prove he has his form back- hopefully he can over the next few months. If Irfan can prove he can still bowl well in one dayers, he should play. So after reading some of the posts since the topic was started. It is clear that there are some sensible people still there. So I hope everybody agrees 1. IP does not deserve back to be in the Indian team as he has not performed well nor played much matches. So hopefully we will see fewer outcry whenever a squad is announced with many totally incapable people writing IP should be there without thinking. And you last line summarized everything I needed to know about your and many clueless opinion If Irfan can prove he can still bowl well in one dayers, he should play. That is basically what you are arguing for IP. Well, I can use the same thing for RJ. If Jadeja can prove he can still bat well in one dayers, he should play. So lets see now what is your rebuttal.

Irfan at no 7 for matches outside India, Jadeja/Ashwin/XYZ at no 7 for matches in India/subcontinent.
ZodiaC Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Irfan at no 7 for matches outside India' date=' Jadeja/Ashwin/XYZ at no 7 for matches in India/subcontinent.[/quote'] Agree, and we don't want Jaddu specials against zimbabwe where the match is already lost :giggle: We need a good slogger who can bowl, not a guy with meaty average at #7. However I stand corrected about pathan being crap nowadays in India/Pak pitches.

However I stand corrected about pathan being crap nowadays in India/Pak pitches. First of all Pathan has to get fit. I somehow belive Yousuf saying that "Irfan was out of the team due to non-cricketing reasons"(which was interpreted by the media as "due to being a muslim") has hurt Irfan's chances a lot. Any BCCI official will feel offended and knowing those thugs, they will go out of their way to have their revenge against someone who has spoken against the administration. Add to this the fact that Irfan has lost his bowling abilities quite a bit (and has become more than a good batsman). Sad to see such a talent go down the drain. Hopefully he can somehow put things together and stage a comeback in the future.
spectre Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Lets understand the 'outside India term' specially for ODIs We can seen SA belters in IPL/CT/CL. Who did most damage there -- Murali and Ashwin. Aussie ODI pitches these days are very batsman friendly, WI are slow tracks. Even ODI wickets in Eng are flat tracks producing big scores these days. Only in England Pathan can get some swing, that too for first few overs, if he open the bowling So, except partly England, I would not consider Pathan anywhere for ODIs A smart spinner (5th bowler) can complete his bowling quota with decent figures. Irfan at no 7 for matches outside India' date=' Jadeja/Ashwin/XYZ at no 7 for matches in India/subcontinent.[/quote']

He has performed well in the matches he has played in- last years Ranji season (22 wickets at 18 and 397 runs at 49 in 5 matches- not half bad. unlucky to be cut short by injury). Though that is more of an indicator of his suitability to the longer format of the game than ODIs. Its telling that you are sticking to ODIs here. As I pointed out a couple of times ...If it came to test cricket- a sterner test of a players ability- Jadeja would never achieve what Pathan has. And you last line summarized everything I needed to know about your and many clueless opinion If Irfan can prove he can still bowl well in one dayers, he should play. The issue Id have is with the use of the word 'still' Pathan was a very good ODI bowler and has taken early wickets for us time and again. Sadly he has fallen by the wayside. So if he is STILL a good ODI bowler, or gets that bowling mojo back- prove he has by bowling well in Ltd overs domestic cricket- then he should be in contention On the other hand Jadeja has done nothing to show that he can be a good batsman in one day cricket, on the contrary he has been for too slow with his scoring. Even if he cannot power it over boundries, he should at least be a good runner and brisk accumulator, which he does not seem to be. Itd be great if he can prove me wrong as we need a good ODI allrounder.

As I pointed out a couple of times ...If it came to test cricket- a sterner test of a players ability- Jadeja would never achieve what Pathan has First thing pathan has acheived very little in his career so it is not like Jadeja has a huge mountain to climb if you use Pathan as the benchmark. If we use the trend currently, by the end of when Jadeja has played the same matches as Pathan, Jadeja will have done much better. Secondly, based on domestic performances, Jadeja will soon be knocking the door for a test match cap. And finally, you do not have the superpowers to know if a player will succeed or not when he has never played. The only reason why supporters like you defend him vigrously is only because you still believe a 26 year old has potential to improve and overcome his struggles. While at the same time, you have already decided 21 year old,Jadeja has little potential to improve and will never overcome his struggles despite being lesser of IP. And batting not again.........

He took 150+ ODI wickets and played 5 years only.(107 ODIs) He took 100 test wickets and played 5 years only.(29 tests) Who can achieve more than him? Can Jadeja? He already played 34 ODIs and took 29 wickets. Can he take 121 wickets in another 73 ODIs? Irfan may not be selected for WC....... But If Jadeja selected....definitely Our team and so many fans will hurted due to his performance. It is a fact which no one is able to change.
flamy Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Pathan should go to the Counties and get his groove back.
OriginalCopy Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Fact:Irfan has really pissed off someone high up in BCCI.he will never play for india again. /thread. True that! He has seriously pissed off some bigshot ... BCCI or team Mgmt ... Nothing else explains that BCCI doesn't even consider him to be in the top 40 players in the country, leave alone fit for the first 15!
ViruRulez Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I had always supported Irfan as the allrounder option but now I am not sure if I would support him. I recently saw his matches and details on cricinfo and it seems he is not playing domestic at all recently. Even YP and all other players are playing domestic and it does not make sense to not play even a single match after IPL. Before IPL too, he was hardly playing domestic cricket. He should have played more domestic cricket and improved his skill but I dont see his dedication now. It is not possible that he is injured for more than a year now. If that is the case he is no way fit for international cricket and needs to work on his fitness. Then why would he play IPL in between if he is injured and did not recover at all. I seriously doubt his dedication and desire to return to cricket now. Just check some of his last matches Last List A Baroda v Mumbai at Rajkot, Feb 15, 2009 Last First-class South Zone v West Zone at Hyderabad (Deccan), Feb 2-6, 2010 Last Twenty20 Kings XI Punjab v Chennai Super Kings at Dharamsala, Apr 18, 2010 He needs to take his cricket seriously in order to make a comeback now. He has the talent and is a great option for no.7 position but his attitude is worrying me now. I would not want him back in the team if he does not devote his time to domestic cricket and earn his place in the national team. Nobody should get a freebie to the Indian team.
