someone Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Had a similar thread some months ago, but again this issue is still presant today. FACT 1: Irfan Pathan is injured OR he is playing any cricket matches on his wishes. So how can he be selected. So hopefull this is stop the myth of the selectors not giving a place to IP whenever the squad is announced. FACT 2: He is not a batsman, get that straight. He cannot be our 6 or 7th batsman in our team. His stats nor form have ever suggested that. in his whole career. So hopefully it will stop people from defending him by saying he will score some good runs against his poor bowling. FACT 3: Finally, he is a poor bowler and when we need a bowler first, he is a liability. So please tell me why is there still a blind love for Pathan when he has not performed anything over the recent years, and therefore Jadeja deserves to be in the team as he has made done something at least domestically to deserve it. Discuss!
Lord Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 domestically,Irfan had a great last season with both bat n ball.discuss
ZodiaC Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I agree with the fact that he hasn't played any domestic tourneys, valid point. But what's all that crap with stats? He has a decent stats, average of 22 with the bat and 29 with the ball is not decent enough? And we don't need rahul dravids or vvs laxmans at #7, but a decent slogger, which pathan is.
ZodiaC Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 domestically' date='Irfan had a great last season with both bat n ball.discuss[/quote'] Oh did he? :hmmm:
urbestfriend Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Irfan is a poor bowler but a good batsman , miles ahead of Jaddu
ZodiaC Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Irfan is a poor bowler but a good batsman ' date=' miles ahead of Jaddu[/quote'] Say he's in poor form, I will give you that. But poor bowler? And who are those who can bowl better than him? Nehra? :hmmm:
VRV Singh Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 His World Cup chances died a long time ago. Even before Gary saying he'd lost faith in him becoming the no.7 we were looking for...his chances for Tests too :cantstop: In this respect it's baffling that people still pine for him, but the overall context with us having Jaddu, Yuseless and now may well having to try Tiwary etc (a specialist batsman anyway) at 7 means there's always going to be a sense of what might have been.
Lord Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Irfan's only problem is injury.other than that theres no reason to not to include him,he is our best no.7.yes his bowling has declined, but like other pacers are ripping thru batting line-ups.as good as Zaheer is in tests, even he has struggled lately in ODIs

SachDan Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Irfan, the batsman is miles better than Jadeja and Yusuf.
vaibhav_delhi Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I wont have irfan back in the team till he improves his bowling again close to what it was in inital years. Irfan has been the biggest dilemna of indian cricket in last 5 years.
Andy Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Yes Irfan the batsman is miles beter than Yusuf and Sir Legend Ravinder Jadeja. But as a bowler he is crap. The only reason i'll take him is that weneed 7 batters, Not 5 bowlers. He can score 20-30 crucial runs, and can chip in for 4-5 overs I'll take him anyday over Sir Jaadu.

vvvslaxman Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 i am sure folks here have seen him lose many a cricket match for india with his bowling... Tell me which bowler is the exception. At one point he was No.2 ODI bowler in the ODI ranking. Tell me which other Indian bowler has reached that peak?
Andy Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 i am sure folks here have seen him lose many a cricket match for india with his bowling... Am talking about 4-6 overs, dont think he can contribute that much with the ball for the opposition in that Short Period. We need 7 batters, thats the bottom line.
Debutant Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 He was supposed to be our bowling allrounder. His batting is decent enough. But he has declined as a bowler. His bowling is mediocre. He has lost his swing.Didnt had pace ever.He has reduced to a simple medium pace bowler without swing. A bowling allrounder has become a ordinary batsman who can bowl. But still he is way better than Jadeja.
Lord Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 i am sure folks here have seen him lose many a cricket match for india with his bowling... Jaddu has already outdone him in that
Andy Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Tell me which bowler is the exception. At one point he was No.2 ODI bowler in the ODI ranking. Tell me which other Indian bowler has reached that peak? He and Sir Aggy had epic contributions for the Oppositions in the past as a bowler. But i'll take him anyday over the Legend Sir J.
vvvslaxman Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Jaddu has already outdone him in that :hysterical: Warner and Hussey opened all-you-can-eat-buffet from Jaddu in the T20 cup
Lord Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 He and Sir Aggy had epic contributions for the Oppositions in the past as a bowler. But i'll take him anyday over the Legend Sir J. Irfan has also won games, like T20 finals 2007.in pressure situations,he is usually very calm, unlike Jaddu
