Umpiring standards in Pakistan during the 70's and the 80's

Remember the Sharjah matches at that time. The umpires were mainly Paki and completely biased and used to give LBW every few mins and most of them looked clearly not out. I dont know about the 80s but I surely remember the horrible Pakis biased umpiring Sharjan in the late 80s and 90s

About Sharjah, I remember Aquib Javed's hattrick which included three LBW's (Shastri, Azhar and Sachin) and I think atleast two of them were contentious. To give three LBW's in three balls not an easy job :nervous:. After that Sharjah tournament of 91 India had stopped playing in Sharjah for few years and subsequently Sharjah lost it's importance and charm, which never came back.

pak was really bad... but umpires in most countries favored the home sides back in those times.

Interestingly, the best umpire from last 2 years is from Pakistan and not a single world class Indian umpire

Both, Border and Lloyds, got out LBW relatively few times, be it home or away. Border got LBW decisions total 16 times only in more than 250 innings and out of 16, 7 was in Australia only. I don't see any bias there. Lloyd's record is definitely lop sided and he got only 2 in WI and outside he got 13 times. But still, difference is not as high as in case of Miandad,25 outside and 8 in Pakistan (and majority of these 8 decisions came only in last 5 years of his career. Also more than than these numbers, I'll go by contemporary cricketers view and as has been discussed in thread earlier, we know what kind of opinion they had about Pakistani umpires. Not to say that there was no bias in umpiring in other countries, but in Pakistan it was at different level - absolutely abysmal.
