Chandan has changed the thread title. Don Corleone you haz been pwned  To claim MSD is the greatest all time ODI keeper bat is :hysterical:
Well answer to changed title is also a no but definately he is the best ODI WK batsman India has produced and we should be happy and proud with what he has done, after struggling for so many years to find a decent WK batsman,we finally got one in MSD who is not only a decent one but one of the best around

Nice cop out :giggle: He's the best ODI wicket keeper for us, no need to compare him with PaPa, Mongiya etc :giggle: BTW gilly has 28 MOM :two_thumbs_up: Sanga 16. And Ganguly, Ponting etc were also captains FYI.
Mate, more accurate way to compare could be to divide MoM awards by runs scored. Because dhoni doesnt get enough time to elongate his innings as he comes down low in the order This way we would know how valuable his each run is: dhoni: 13/5733 * 100 = 0.227 gilly: 28/9619 * 100= 0.291 sanga: 16/8510 *100 = 0.188 it is coming out to be gilly > dhoni > sanga. but in my opinion, dhoni>gilly as he has to captain the side as well, nuture youngsters and soak in all the pressure. gilly had a much more dangerous players(batters, bowlers and fielders) with him all the time, thus much more chance of winning a match thereby enhancing his chances of becoming MoM as its rarely given frm losing team.

^ @dhon_zone: Sure, he is the best wkbat india has had. The issue why people are  at thread is the claim that he is world's all time best. Andy: I think Sanga is a better wkbat than MSD even in ODIs. But then there can be some argument perhaps. Sanga is just a far superior batsman than MSD. Absolute class batsman he (Sanga) is despite being Whingakara as a captain.

Its silly to defend Dhonis lack of Quality as Compared to Gilly by putting the word 'Captaincy' ahead of him. Punter too is an ODI captain. Plus Despite being a Captain for 5 years Sourav Ganguly had 22 Tons, he scored tons all over the world, in Tournament Finals, Semifinals. Dhoni has none against them. Any reason to defend that?

Agree on that class thing and a Beter Test batsman Without a doubt, but may be Dhoni have played more Good knocks under Pressure than Sanga. I dont have the stats to argue though.

This enhances his importance. guess if u'd ask any player arnd the world, they wud say tht they rate dhoni much higher than ganguly everw as.

Ganguly - that will hit a nerve with some hardcore gangu fans :winky: J/K in ODIs, Ganguly pwns MSD as a batsman. Just that Gangu was not a keeper so not in this thread.

First things first: As gilly played as an opener, you can never single out such instances, as he literally rips the bowling apart and turn the game on his head, then there won't be much pressure on the middle order. That's why there are not much innings like the one in 2007 wcup finals. Agree with most of the above, he was key to our win in the CB series and against Pak - but I didn't get the SL series (the murali and mendis one) you were talking about? And about opening being easy, can't help but :giggle: How many openers (who played a sizable amount of games) have averages in the early 50's or heck even the mid forties? And the new ball will have movement irrespective of how flat the pitch is - so opening is the hardest part FYI. Yes, you can score quick runs, but the odds of a wicket falling is much higher compared to that of middle/lower middle order. Not to mention how gilly has revolutionized the role of WKB. And captaincy is a whole different matter, we've discussed that to death in many threads, that anyways is irrelevant here.
that is the series when Kohli opened for India and India won 3-2 after a huge drubbing they got in test series where Mendis was unplayable. Glichrist averages 35 in ODIs not in 40s or 50s..very similar to Sehwag and hitting and scoring in middle overs with the old ball is much difficult in comparison to the new ball....Gilchrist was a great player and he has no comparison to anyone though as he was in his own league...

Most of the players Currently Playing dont have played much with and Against Ganguly, so they may have a opinion on that. Still i dont think they'll make such a stupid statement for a Player who has done well in Pressure Situation , in the Finals, And in the knock Out stages. Ganguly from 1997-2001 was one of the Best ODI bat of that Time. Records speak for themselves. And one more Thing if they even Call Dhoni more dangerous surely wont be the Dhoni after 2007. You need to get your facts right.

Dhoni is not a classy batsman, one with an unusual technique, but he does his job in the middle order pretty well, and that too consistently, but Gilly is just a notch ahead of him and sanga although a bad wicket keeper, but his batting skills are fat better than Dhoni.

I dont agree with that he is a very natural and safe keeper, and add to that uses his appealing skills better than other WKs

Ganguly used to open the innings...if he comes down the order he would have not score those much hundreds coz of his strike which was just in early 70s.....
