Andy Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Slightly off topic' date='what do you mean by superior attacks, going by standards of judging players,Is M Azharuddin a better test player than Sehwag becoz Sehwag has faced inferior bowlers in comparison to the former.or you just count superior attacks to show your love for dhoni:--D[/quote'] Sehwag has Faced Mcgrath, Warne, Gilespie, Vaas, Murali.

BTW Azhar TBH could've ended up as one of our batting greats but phuther mucker  Also to add sehwag has faced many greats like Mcwarne
gaurav92 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Sanga as a batsman in SAF/Aus/Eng have a better average than Dhoni Look at this stat Dhoni Sanga And Dhoni has got more not outs than Sanga :D On the other hand Dhoni averages a ordinary 28 while Sanga averages 41. Dhoni Sanga

gaurav92 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 So Sanga > MSD as a batsman in every format.
Andy Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 So Sanga > MSD as a batsman in every format. :((
fineleg Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Ganguly was a class act. Even as a captain, at times, he was a class "act"

Dhoni Sanga Slightly off topic, but did you see Sanga's average as a kepeer in those stats. Starkly similar to Dhoni's measly average of 28 :--D
Andy Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Even as a captain' date=' at times, he was a class "act"[/quote'] Talk of Diverting the Topic here comes. You can post whatever you want in the Ganguly thread you made, and you'll be replied. Mashallah you wont get back to reply us back.:winky:
gaurav92 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Another stat here.Even Ganguly and Dravid average better than MSD in Aus/Eng/SAF. Dravid Avg of 43 :woot: Dada Avg 35, low alright, but better than MSD.Plus they had to face the likes of Pollock, Donald, Mcgrath etc. They are far better than MSD without a doubt.
rkt.india Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 OK.. Dravid, Ganguly & co faced almost all the bowlers dhoni faced + Wasim, Waqar, Mcgrath, Warne, Donald etc Dhoni has 39 not outs while sachin in his whole career has only 41 :giggle: Now do the math plz... dont forget he also gets to play full 50 overs to score more runs too....Dhoni gets less and still scores runs and win matches....compare him with a WK if you want to not to SRT...he is from Heaven
gaurav92 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Slightly off topic, but did you see Sanga's average as a kepeer in those stats. Starkly similar to Dhoni's measly average of 28 :--D Yeah True. But at the same time he averages 41 in ODIs as a keeper in those countries :--D http://stats.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/50710.html?class=2;filter=advanced;keeper=1;opposition=1;opposition=2;opposition=3;orderby=default;template=results;type=allround
ZodiaC Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 My point of questioning was how does superior attacks reasoning come into the arguement Why? Do you think batting is tougher now than it used to be against Mcwarne, Wasim etc? Otherwise Mike hussey pwns Tendiya coz he has a 50+ avg :hmmm: The era when Dravid/Gangs etc etc played, batting much tougher than this tontee tontee era. One reason for that is indeed because of the tougher bowling attack IMO. I was just saying that direct avg/ s/r comparison is not possible in this case (Dravid gangs etc vs Dhoni). Then 250-260 would be defendable total but now even 400+ is hard to defend.
gaurav92 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Even while chasing a total away from home against (Eng, SAF, AUs, WIn, NZ) Dhoni avg a mere 24 while Sanga avg 30. Dhoni Sanga This should seal it up saying Dhoni isn't the greatest wkt keeping batsman ever :--D
ZodiaC Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 dont forget he also gets to play full 50 overs to score more runs too....Dhoni gets less and still scores runs and win matches....compare him with a WK if you want to not to SRT...he is from Heaven That was not a comparison, that was just to show he almost has as many not out as sachin who has played nearly 450 ODIs :--D Whats up with all this getting 50 overs and stuffz? Then why are other openers not having gorgeous averages? :giggle: And BTW don't make it sound like Dhoni batted at the tail, he bats at number 5 which is not way down the order. Many of those high averaging players including bevan has the best averages at no. 6 coz of the not out boost :--D

gaurav92 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 And how much do they average in matches where they scored ducks' date=' were run out by the no 7 batsman of each side and when the 3rd umpire wore spectacles :--D[/quote'] :giggle: Perhaps you must try and filter that out since i don't have a statsguru that filters out the averages in the parameters certified by you :--D. But seriously, Sanga is a better batsman than Dhoni make no mistake. And Gilly is the best of the lot.He averages 41 on Sub Continental tracks (included Windies), while chasing a total. http://stats.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/5390.html?batting_fielding_first=2;class=2;filter=advanced;home_or_away=2;home_or_away=3;innings_number=2;innings_number=4;opposition=4;opposition=6;opposition=7;opposition=8;orderby=default;template=results;type=allround;view=cumulative Having said that, its hard to say that Gilly was not the best by saying the averageof Gilly was far behind Dhoni avg just 36 as compared to whopping 50+. But Gilly was an aggressive opening batsman, had to play early swing, seam movement whatever the pitch had to offer, had 6,7 players in the ring that denied him an easy single in the earlier overs, but equally well, he had the hard ball that came nicely on the bat, the field restrictions allowed him to play his natural game and go over the top, and eliminated the risk element of getting out, which perhaps is more when you take the aerial root after the Powerplays. So all in all, its fair enough to say that Gilly was the best because he changed the way the first 15 overs were approached(Although they say that Sanath and kaloo did that in 96 WC), i am not sure that Gilly would have played any differently had it not been discovered then.
