Had a look at their batting averages. Uday Kaul averages nearly 50 in 1st class!! WOW. Wonder why no one has pushed for this guy so far. No other Indian keeper comes close to having a domestic avg of 50 (including MSD, DK and PP)!!

I do hope some of them eventually start getting more into the limelight.

CM Gautam from Karnataka- Had a brilliant debut season last year. First class average of 43 Uday Kaul from Punjab- Very relaible keeper and a very good batsman, 1st class avg of 49 and list A avg of 50 Manvinder Bisla from Himachal Pradesh- Played for Kings 11 in IPL, has been a keeper with India u-19 team. 1st class avg of 29 Sreevatsa Goswami: Decent batsman , brilliant keeper..can't find a place regulalry in Bengal ranji team due to Saha's presence. has not played much 1st class cricket but has a avg of 50 in list A cricket.

Noone's going to be pushing Dhoni out of the test squad till we find a better tactician than Dhoni to be the skipper.. We have a strong batting line-up even otherwise,we are not hard-pressed to find a 50.00 averaging keeper-batsman. I think Dhoni does the job just fine..would be good if he cleans up his act behind the stumps

It all depends on the sort of expectations one has of Dhoni as a batsman. As far as I am concerned he is an average batsman who thrives when the team has set up a solid foundation, specially on flat tracks. As a result these kind of failures don't disappoint me, but they do serve the purpose of driving home the point that expectations from Dhoni should be commensurate to his abilities, which are in a single word, average. He is doing a reasonable job behind the stumps, though has become more sloppy off late. He is a very good captain, and an average batsman who can take the game away from the opposition if the top order has set up the match. He just does not have a technically strong enough or a versatile enough game as a batsman to play the sort of innings top order batsmen are capable of.

LOL the list is only of potentially good keepers. No one is saying kick Dhoni out. FIney wanted to know if there are new names in the domestic circuit and I listed those names.

And while he may appear irreplaceable today, if his keeping/batting dips to alarming levels, things will change. Hopefully he will find the batting form soon, and his keeping will continue good.

LOL @ replacing dhoni. He's arguably our all time best wicketkeeper batsman. I don't agree that he's a good tactician, but why fix if it aint broke? And Dhoni will bounce back in the rest of the games, hopefully.

Has had a very consistent run in domestic cricket for last 3 years. 2007-08 9 matches, 600 runs@54 with 2 100s and 2008-09 8 matches, 588 runs@58 with 2 100s and 3 50s 2009-10 9 matches, 625 runs@48 with 1 100 and 5 50s No other Indian keeper comes close to having a domestic avg of 50 (including MSD, DK and PP)!!

His form has beeen quite scratchy behnd the stumps lately... won't rate him that high as a keeper.. the 'arguably' is a fairly huge arguably to make it insignificant..

Mahi's spoon technique is not working in Tests for him. He keeps lunging forward regardless of the length. He managed to get in line each time and negotiate it. He is not doing that consistently anymore.

Malaria or not, his batting in tests is not upto par. maybe he need to spend some time with sachin and learn a thing or 2. P.S. Hope he gets better sooon!

++ And for those who question his batting technique, he is a fighter and a resolute guy, more like steve waugh who also didnt have a great technique but was still highly rated with the bat.

As for the ODIs, There has not been a better clutch batman than dhoni in the history of indian cricket (including sachin). He does the same role with the bat as a hussey,a beven or a morgan(these days) did for their respective teams, plus he keeps and captains (admirably) for free..

Tell me an innings where he changed the game around for India, outside sub-continent whether in Tests or ODIs when the team was in deep trouble.If you can't, the thread should be closed. P.S : I need a situation wherein India lost some quick wickets, while chasing or setting up a good total.And the Result was that India won that game.

In the first game you stated.Dhoni got a nice platform set up for him, and only then he scored well. In the second game, he came in at a time, he had to play his strokes, and he did, got 50(35), so it was a matter of slogging, and was successful. Yes, in the third game, he played a good supporting hand.Although, we were chasing a very modest total of 230, the track was not that easy to baton.Still feel Yuvi played the key role of scoring boundaries and not Dhoni,but dhoni played a good innings there, nevertheless. BTW you didn't reply to the query asked by me in the prev. post :--D
