highlights of an awesome career highlights of an awesome career With 49 Test hundreds and 46 centuries in ODIs, Sachin Tendulkar is a mere five hundreds away from a century of three-figure knocks for India — one in Test matches and four in ODIs. The following are the highlights of his career, spanning 21 years: 1989: Made his international debut in both, Tests and ODIs, at the age of 16! 1990: Scored maiden Test century: 119 not out at Old Trafford, against England, which won him his first Man of the match award in international cricket. 1992: Reached 1000 runs in Tests and ODIs. 1993: Made his first international century at home (165 against England at Chepauk) after making four away from home. 1994: Reached 2000 runs in Tests and ODIs. Scored his maiden ODI century in his 79th match. Made 1000-plus runs in a calendar year in ODIs for the first time. 1995: Reached 3000 runs in ODIs. 1996: Reached 3000 runs in Tests and 4000 runs in ODIs. Became India captain in Tests and ODIs for the first time. 1997: Reached 4000 runs in Tests and 5000 runs in ODIs. Made 1000 runs in a calendar year in Tests for the first time. 1998: Reached 6000 runs in Tests and 7000 runs in ODIs. Became the ODI batsman with most centuries (18) surpassing Desmond Haynes’ tally of 17. Made 1894 runs in the calendar year — still the most in ODIs. Claimed his first international five-wicket haul (5/32 in an ODI against Australia in Kochi). Also claimed his 50th ODI wicket. 1999: Reached 5000 runs in Tests and 8000 runs in ODIs. Scored 186 not out against New Zealand at Hyderabad, the highest by an Indian batsman in ODIs. Was involved in a record 331-run stand in the same match with Rahul Dravid — the highest ever partnership for any wicket in ODIs! Scored his first Test double hundred (217 against New Zealand at Ahmedabad). 2000: Reached 6000 runs in Tests and 9000 runs in ODIs. Became the top run scorer in ODIs, surpassing Mohammed Azharuddin’s aggregate of 9378. 2001: Reached 7000 runs in Tests and 10,000 runs in ODIs. Claimed his 100th ODI wicket. 2002: Reached 8000 runs in Tests and 11,000 runs in ODIs. 2003: Reached 12,000 runs in ODIs. 2004: Reached 9000 runs in Tests and 13,000 runs in ODIs. Claimed his 100th catch in ODIs. Registered his highest Test score — 248 not out against Bangladesh in Dhaka. 2005: Reached 10,000 runs in Tests. Became the Test batsman with most centuries (35) surpassing Sunil Gavaskar's tally of 34. 2006: Reached 14,000 runs in ODIs. Appeared in the only T20 international of his career. 2007: Reached 11,000 runs in Tests and 15,000 runs in ODIs. Also claimed his 150th ODI wicket. Was dismissed in the nineties on seven occasions, including six times in ODIs! Became the only second player to appear in 400 ODI matches. 2008: Became the highest run-getter in Tests, surpassing Brian Lara’s aggregate of 11,953. Reached 12,000 runs in Tests and 16,000 runs in ODIs. Claimed his 100th catch in Tests. 2009: Reached 17,000 runs in ODIs. Completed 20 years in international cricket on November 15. 2010: Reached 13,000 and 14,000 runs in Tests. Scored three double hundreds — two in Tests and one in an ODI — to become the first batsman to do so in ODIs (200 not out against South Africa, in Gwalior, in February). Made six Test hundreds in the calendar year — the most by any Indian. In September, he became the Asian player (beating Imran Khan’s record) with the longest career in international cricket. Became the most capped Test player in history by going past Australian Steve Waugh’s tally of 168 matches. http://www.telegraphindia.com/1101115/jsp/sports/story_13178300.jsp

There’s more to cricket than 50 Test hundreds, says Tendulkar LOKENDRA PRATAP SAHI Sachin Tendulkar Calcutta: For the second time in less than a year, Sachin Tendulkar made an exception for The Telegraph and gave an interview in the midst of a Test — occasion No.1 was when he spoke (from Kanpur) on the first anniversary of 26/11. Sachin, who completes 21 years of international cricket on Monday, took some questions on Sunday evening, soon after returning to the team hotel in Hyderabad. The following are excerpts His thoughts on being hours away from completing 21 years at the highest level To be honest, I hadn’t been thinking of November 15... Now that you’ve reminded me, well, some memories are bound to come back. The 21-year journey When one starts playing, one doesn’t look at playing for X number of years... The years go by and I consider myself fortunate to have played for so long... It’s not that I set myself five-year targets or so. Those he's most grateful to My immediate family, the uncle and aunt with whom I stayed for some years... My coach (Ramakant Achrekar)... Everybody, in fact, who supported me. Memories of his Test debut (National Stadium in Karachi) Very vague, except my walk to the wicket, to take strike for the first time in Test cricket... I didn't last for long (bowled by Waqar Younis, another debutant, for 15), but that nerves-filled walk is definitely etched in memory. 2010 having been a phenomenal year I’d say it has been an eventful one... The team’s target (to become No.1 in Tests) got achieved last December itself, but a few personal milestones have been reached in 2010... Eventful would be the best way to describe the year. Whether he's conscious of being just one short of 50 Test hundreds How can it be otherwise when everybody is only talking about the 50th hundred... Wherever I go, that’s the sole topic... I don’t like it, but what to do? As I see it, there’s more to cricket than 50 Test hundreds... As you know, I believe in destiny... Whatever is to happen, will. The focus also being on the 2011 World Cup... It’s everybody’s dream to be a member of a World Cup-winning team... Today, however, my focus is on the current series (against New Zealand)... I’ll be focusing on the World Cup when we're closer to the (February 19-April 2) tournament. Message for youngsters Be sincere... Be honest, with yourself and with others... I've said this before, but it’s important to have a dream and to chase it... Challenge yourself, raise the bar. Finally, on buddy Harbhajan Singh being in terrific form with the bat in the ongoing series (Laughs) Yes, Bhajji’s been making such an impact... It’s good for the team and, sure, I’m happy for him. http://www.telegraphindia.com/1101115/jsp/sports/story_13178104.jsp

If he fails in the 2nd innings I would draft in Yuvraj for the next match and if UV scores, Sachin should be dropped from SA series as well

What does those meaningless runs mean when he is not able to score even against NZ under pressure? Have you seen UV's strike rate in tests? Even if he scores a beastly 30-40 runs India will win a test unlike Sachin's boring 100s

I don't want to write much on this as all the SRT worshippers will gang on me and I will be banned because of my replies. I will just say this Sachin is past his prime and Yuvraj is just reaching his. Plus he has Punjabi blood just like Bhajji. I dont care what SRT did in the past but the future is UV. We will not stand a chance in South Africa without Yuvraj even if we have 11 Sachin in the team

Oh please, the midget choked in the last test match where we were 15-3 with 2 out of form batsmen to come in next. The midget should have known this. But he did the usual and he choked. 124110.jpg I don't care how many runs he makes, but if he can't make the runs when the team needs him too, then it's worthless. And He's a CHOKER. A MIDGET CHOKER if you ask me.
