Zaheer had to leave the field after he could bowl just three balls in the ninth over with an injury and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha had to chip in to finish the over. Should he be rested for the Third Test at Nagpur? IMO, we cannot risk ZK. If the injury gets worse, then SA tour is a goner! :(( He should not take the field on day-5 of Test-2 and then should be omitted from Test-3. They need to make sure doctors/physios work with him to get him fit in time for SA tour.

Zaheer Khan ruled out of Nagpur Test India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the deciding third Test against New Zealand in Nagpur due to a groin strain. Left-arm seamer Jaidev Unadkat has been called in as his replacement. The injury resulted in Zaheer missing a good part of the fourth day of the second Test in Hyderabad, where he left the field during New Zealand's second innings, and the bulk of the fifth day when he bowled just three overs. The decision to leave him out of the third Test is a precautionary measure. Zaheer's absence was felt in Hyderabad as India struggled to make inroads and New Zealand, led by Brendon McCullum, steered the Test to a draw. Zaheer had triggered India's fightback in the first innings after New Zealand had taken the first-day honours, and helped bowl the visitors out for 350. His injury means Ishant Sharma could be drafted in for the final game to partner Sreesanth, who picked up four wickets in the Hyderabad Test. Unadkat, who will take Zaheer's place in the squad, represents Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy and has picked up 26 wickets in six first-class games at an average of 26.34 http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-new-zealand-2010/content/current/story/487393.html

Fitness is part of the game especially if you are a pace bowler and especially if you are 32 plus the recovery times are longer to bounce back from niggles. Zaheer Khan is a master of breaking down never being fully fit to bowl 16-17 over stints in a day's play like before on a Test to Test basis. After missing the entire SL series due to injury he breaks down again this time in the middle of a Test when India was up 122 runs in the 1st innings and was seriously hampered to peg NZ back since its main strike bowler got a abdominal strain and could take no further part in the Test thus affecting India's chances to push for a victory. This has happened before with Zaheer. I think it is better to take a call on him once and for all. If his priorities are ODI's and 20-20 he should not be selected for Tests anymore with the kind of niggles he has now. No way can his body handle the rigors of all 3 formats of the game. Either retire from Tests and play ODI's and 20-20 if that is more lucrative or retire from the exhibition variety of cricket and just be part of the Test campaign. A serious call has to be made here by the selectors keeping all reputations aside. For a fan it was painful to watch the 5th day's proceedings with their main strike bowler out.

Every fast bowler gets injured, that's a fact. You can't control injuries, but you sure as hell can do a better job of preparing pitches where fast bowlers don't have to bowl 40-50 overs just to get a few wickets. Prepare better test match pitches and you'll see less injuries.

So it was not srees fault after all' date=' it was the pitch!:--D[/quote'] This was the first thing which came to my mind when I read Fontaine's reply. But then I thought bhaisahab was maybe just in a bad mood. No need to rub it in :isalute:

This is one of the most over critical posts I have ever read. Dude,Zak was MoM against Aussies recently on highway like pitches. He's the only bowler to be taking wickets in India where a so called great spinner can't take a wicket. And he's the best bowler in world cricket IMO.I know people root for Dale Steyn but Zak gets to play more on heart breaking pitches for bowlers and still does exceedingly well. Everyone does get injured but that does not mean his priorities are taunty taunty or ODI. Grow up man!!
