dial_100 Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Group A -------- Group B Australia -------- India Pakistan -------- South Africa NZ --------------- England Sri Lanka ------- West Indies Zimbabwe ----- Bangladesh Canada -------- Ireland Kenya ---------- Netherlands After the sudden fall of Aus, Pakistan in the group A, alll of a sudden every single team except SL looks very week in that group.
Pak_Forever Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Group A -------- Group B After the sudden fall of Aus, Pakistan in the group A, alll of a sudden every single team except SL looks very week in that group. Australia and Pakistan are still a very competitive teams in ODIs. Zimbabwe has been playing decent cricket. But overall yes group B seems a little more tougher. Bangladesh and Ireland are well capable of shockers than compared to Canada and Kenya.
spectre Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Group B is heavily loaded Expect Aussies and Lankans, rest of them are minnows
Sachinism Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Group A -------- Group B Australia -------- India Pakistan -------- South Africa NZ --------------- England Sri Lanka ------- West Indies Zimbabwe ----- Bangladesh Canada -------- Ireland Kenya ---------- Netherlands After the sudden fall of Aus, Pakistan in the group A, alll of a sudden every single team except SL looks very week in that group. I reckon Pak and Aus are both very capable of competing in ODI cricket
Sid Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Dont get fooled by Aussies recent performance, its a world event, they will be a difficult team to beat and their Odi team is not that bad
dial_100 Posted December 5, 2010 Author Posted December 5, 2010 Lets keep Aussies aside for now. What credible performance Pak has delivered in last 2 years? Come on guys.
Hindustani Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Group A is easily 25% weaker then Group B though the groups were based on ICC rankings and Australia is still the leader by a long way so seems to be appropriate as per rankings.
Pak_Forever Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Lets keep Aussies aside for now. What credible performance Pak has delivered in last 2 years? Come on guys. Well we were pretty damn competitive against England and South Africa in last two ODI series as I recall. Call Pakistan a minnow at your own risk. Yes, we have been unable to win series, as we have been choking in finale games of the series, but always through out the series we are always competitive. Our ODI line-up with batsmen, bowlers and all-rounders, overall unit actually looks much better than many other so called big guns.
jf1gp_1 Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Pak are the best ODI unit; yet no one wants to acknowledge special ability of pak players being psychic , they know game result before a ball is bowled.
dial_100 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 well since 2009, they have lost 2/3 of the games they played. Does that tell the story??
Zap_Brannigan Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 With 4 teams being selected from each group for the next round, the only balance that really matters is the ability of the 3 bottom teams. Considering that 5 out of the bottom 6 are utter crap, only BD matters. The others might sneak in an upset but to qualify for the next round, you really need more than a single upset. It might happen but most probably wont. Back to BD, since BD are playing at home, it could win 1 or more against the top 4, which could throw the balance off since anyone in the top 4 can win against each other. But basically, the format is such that kenya or BD or ireland sneaking in for the quarterfinals is really tough compared to the last version. Remember 96 format? Top 8 teams making it to the QF.
Jimmy Cliff Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Looking at the two groups I think there's a fair chance of an India vs Pak Quarterfinal...
dial_100 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 Looking at the two groups I think there's a fair chance of an India vs Pak Quarterfinal... I think that is a quite possibility. It will be easiest QF for us.
99.94 Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 I reckon Pak and Aus are both very capable of competing in ODI cricket Considering we're the number one One Day team in the world I would hope we can 'compete'
Sachin=GOD Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Considering we're the number one One Day team in the world I would hope we can 'compete' but you are not the same team as the one in 2003 or for that matter even 2007 world cup. :finger:
hari504504 Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Lets keep Aussies aside for now. What credible performance Pak has delivered in last 2 years? Come on guys. That is what makes Pak dangerous...they seem to come out of nowhere at times... Suspend players..retire players..players run away and seek refugee status...in-fighting..oath taking..drug abuse..murder suspects..but all of a sudden they seem to gel into this team..a winning one. (T20 WC which they won.. - how many of us gave them any chance at all)
dial_100 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 I aint discussing kids cricket. I dont think I give damn about Tonty cricket. ODIs are totally different game. You go too fast like 20-20 and lose too many wkts,, you are in danger of not scoring enough. Or if you go too cautious and then fail to accelerate, you still manage mediocre total. That is why only two teams have managed to win the ODI WC more than once. SA and ENG, never even were close to winning one. The team that Pak had in 92 was their best ever team. They were never even 25% of that team again in last 20 years. WI were dominent, and they won 2 world cups. Aussies were good throughout and they won 3 times in a row. The surprises dont happen everytime. A weak team will lose very easily with little fight back sometimes but in the end will lose. This Pak team doesnot give you the impression that it can pose any threat to even Bangladesh.

Pak are a dangerous side, the format suits them Beat the minnows and still lose to the rest of the big guns in the group then you still make the quarter finals and it only takes 1 win to get you into the semis. Pak doesn't have a reliable team but individual match winners can prove to be the diffrence in 1 match. Razzaq vs Saffas Gul vs England Pakistan would destroy Bangladesh any day so to compare them is just stupid. You can only compare sides when they play each other Recent games have been Pak vs Bangladesh Asia Cup - Pak win easily Recent Games Pak vs India Asia Cup - Thriller which India edges. Champions Trophy - Malik plays a great innings alongside Moyo
