mumbai & chennei took wrong decesion to retain all 4 players bcoz they are now left with only 4:5 millions in total to spend on rest of the squad. Mumbai choose 1 bad player i.e Harbhajan Chennei choose 1 bad too i.e Vijay Rajasthan choose 1 bad i.e Warne Banglore should have retained Kallis but they haven't Delhi have retained just 1 player i.e Sehwag great decesion Decccan have not announced any of retention also good decesion King XII punjab have not yet announced any Kolkata have retained Gayle but should have chosen mcculum Bad choice

Apparently teams don't have to pay the retained players the amt they will be charged in the cap. It is a mutually agreed upon amount. Remember, a team keeps a player whom they think losing in the auction would mean a bad deal when compared to much they can pre-negotiate and pay for. For those who keep bringing up Vijay's name, may be you missed those games where he whacked the crap out of most opposition last season averaging 35 at 150 SR with 1 100 and 2 50s. The only guy who was better for us was Raina and both those guys have been wisely held back. I am surprised Delhi chose to leave Gambhir unprotected, especially given that Sehwag was the one who was unhappy with mgmt and didn't want to be the captain.

May be gambhir didn't want to play for delhi or delhi didn't want to pay the amount he demanded. Still it's very surprising how any one could leave gambhir :hmmm:

Kohli over uthappam, Dravid. Kumble. WTF Mallya :finger: Kohli didn't deliver when needed the most.. In crucial matches in IPL. He was a force in CL20
I agree. Kohli cannot be captain atleast for 3 years and such an investment on him is a pretty high risk gamble..

The Retained... Here you go - Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga Chennai: MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, M Vijay, Albie Morkel Rajasthan: Shane Warne, Shane Watson Delhi: Virender Sehwag Bangalore: Virat Kohli Full article - http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2011/content/current/story/490973.html Kohli is not entirely a surprise but I'd think Mallya would have gone for Uthappa and Kumble ahead of Kohli.

Lax may not get picked by anyone. RD will get a very low auction price I believe. Then again he is still better than most of the players out there. Ganguly can be a good pick for one of the new teams who wants a captain as well and to attract crowd or could end up being at the bottom of the food chain like RD.

I'm sad to say this but Dada,RD and VVS need to give up and take a more mgmnt/Coaching role, It just hurts their legacy when players like Pollard,Morkel,Vijay andKohli are considered more important to their franchises than them. I am sure players like warner, nannes and Yusuf Pathan will draw more money than these legends in IPL this time. I like IPL for what it has done to the image of our country as a cricketing superpower but things like this are always depressing bcoz makes us think were the future of cricket is heading..

The teams that didnt retain are making a wise decision just like the teams that reatained its players. Those teams that didnt retain have full bankroll to spend, and chances that they will gambling on getting back their players for a cheap price, or at worst a bit extra..........

it would work both ways. you could the players you want back for cheap, which ofc also means player isn't as motivated to do their best cause they made more the last time around. you could lose them and then get players who you didn't even want in the first place.

Where did you get this from? If this is true, then it means retained players could have got more and technically CSK and MI will be going over the cap...Infact CSK (by retaining 2 off the most popular T20 players in India)and MI (by retaining 4 off the best limited overs players from around the world), has already un-balanced the equation, which was the reason a salary cap exists. But it makes sense, I didnt think Malinga and Vijay would have gone for just 500,000 or Kholi get 1.8 million $.

can someone tell me why RR is retaining players when they are suspended from IPL ? :dontknow: Is there any news that I have missed ?
yes, you missed the news that arbitrator has stayed their expulsion and has allowed them to participate in the auctions for now. similar with KXI punjab.

Courts stayed the termination order or something, which means both RR and Kings 11 still has all the rights as any other franchise including player auction and will play in IPL 4 unless BCCI goes to courts and gets them banned again.

The new rules governing player retention allow a team to keep up to four players but at a steep price. The first player retained will cost a team $1.8 million against the salary cap of $9 million, regardless of the amount the player is actually paid. http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2011/content/story/476092.html

Raina is a very good buy for Raina. I'm surprised that Raina stayed with CSK as he could easily fetch atleast 1.3M from Pune. He's a franchise player and CSK already have two in Dhoni and Raina. Maybe CSK management paid him a little bit more off the record:P In the auction, if two teams desperately want one player then who knows how much higher the bidding will be. So good to retain the nucleus of the team right now than later. A bit surprised KXIP didnt retain Yuvraj or Delhi Gambhir and Dilshan. Anybody know how if there is going to be a max bid in the auction?

thanks guys. So if a player is taken by Punjab or RR , then there is a risk that he might lose everything in case these teams lose their appeal. this is not fair for the player as in the auction the player doesnt have a say
