Tendulkar won't retire until he wins World Cup: Kapil

At 37, Sachin Tendulkar is definitely at the twilight of his career but former India captain Kapil Dev thinks otherwise. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain feels the champion batsman will go on to play another World Cup unless India lays its hands on next year's quadrennial event. Kapil said that if not for injury, Tendulkar will be a great asset to the Indian team in the mega-event. "I feel talking about Sachin (Tendulkar) is an insult to him. He is such an important person not only for India but for world cricket. His performance gives strength to the team. He brings in abundance of experience to the team," Kapil said during a promotional event for the 2011 World Cup in New Delhi on Thursday. sachin tendulkar"Sachin is one player who brings crowd on to the ground. People say it is his last World Cup but I don't believe in this. We might see him play the next World Cup also. I feel until and unless he wins the trophy, he won't go," the former India captain added. Since making his debut way back in 1989, Tendulkar has, so far, featured in five World Cups for India but the trophy has eluded him on all occasions with the closest being a runners-up finish in the 2003 edition of the tournament in South Africa . And with age not on Tendulkar's side, next year's mega-event in the sub-continent might be his last World Cup. And legendary West Indian Sir Vivian Richards said that a World Cup trophy would be the fitting farewell to the iconic batsman. "That (the World Cup trophy) would be the icing on the cake for the man (Tendulkar)," Richards said.

Hopefully India will win the World Cup this time with the help of Goddy  If we do win it this time then I think he will retire from ODIs after the world cup :((
he already has more or less retired from ODIs

Someone like Kapil should know better than to put pressure on Sachin through media. He is not making it any easy on Sachin. Besides, it was not too long back when Kapil so aggressively wanted Sachin to retire accusing him of selfishness.

What is this, Kapil bashing week? He is singing praises of Tendulkar and making an argument about how much the World Cup means to Tendulkar - perhaps not the best choice of words, but we have people calling him to STFU and pea brained. Do you guys forget that he is the only Indian captain to have won the WC and knows what it means? Or the years of toiling as the only respectable bowler in the line up for 15 years is all forgotten to start calling him names for an off the cuff remark? This is a guy who bowled 31 overs on the trot as a fast bowler on a crumbling Ahmedabad pitch when he realized that the spinners in the team are not good enough to exploit the wicket. 31 overs on the trot! Today's pansies need a break after 5 overs. I would love to see the reaction of these very fans who are knocking Kapil down 10 years later when the next generation start laying all kinds of character flaws on our present day heroes. It's already started happening with Dravid and it's not long before it will happen to others as well. What's wrong in just saying, 'I disagree with Kapil's assessment' rather than start a character assassination of him?

Sorry, I don't agree. No disrespecting Kapil but what business is it of Kapil to decide when Sachin should retire or not ?

Tendu needs to leave on a high...whether it be the WC or simply his form.. don't want him scratching around for milestones like Kapil did during the last 30 odd tests in his career

Gosh, what gets written in the media is so different from how the interaction with the press goes!! Watch this video and decide for yourself what exactly Kapil said. VJCnRqva8Kw Kapil is talking so passionately about Sachin and what gets written in the media is as if he is criticising Sachin.

^thats the work of the media, twist and turn the sentences of celebrities to suit their own motives. IMO Kapil Dev did'nt say anything wrong here, it was just a choice of few wrong words here and there. He, like eveyone else wants India and Sachin to do well - whats the big deal in that.

Its not in Sachin's hands to win this WC Indian bowling attack is real crap, when the opposition starts attacking. So defending any target is not a safe option with our bowling. Also, with three knockout matches before the cup, this could be anyone's WC So, saying one player is going to win the WC is just nonsense. Also sachin fanatics have this 'chilly up their ass' feeling whenever anyone says anything abt him. They dont want to hear anything but worships :cantstop:

I guess people would respect Kapil Paaji a bit more if he didn't keep on changing his opinion about Sachin among others, after every series. So he is singing praises now, is he? Just a while back he was saying that Sachin is not a match-winner

Sorry, but Kapilji doesn't have a good track record of comments, specially against SRT. And all this does is to keep up the myth of one single reason behind any failure of team India
