Indians will bounce back after the disaster of 1st test, they can play on green tops which will be provided for the next test, but the same cannot be said of SA, they will NEVER be able to play on turning tracks or win on any big stage - will just choke.

The truth is that argument is quite valid. But depend on what you define as good wicket. For me a green top like ones in NZ in 2002 are not good wickets. The idea of good wicket is that it should have something for both bowlers (Pacers and spinners) and for the batsman and should last 5 days. It should produce attacking intense cricket. The wicket at Perth was an ideal test wicket imo.

OP, I've Been saying the same for a long time. Its double standards to talk about green pitches as a test of a batsman's quality while spinning tracks are seen as a "Asian teams cheat to win". This has led to BCCI trying to eliminate the identity of Indian tracks and has resulted in flatter tracks. Another double standard is a batsman who can play on green tops seen as good even if he fails at spinning tracks while the vice versa is not good enough. Same with bowlers.

Besides, one can't praise Hussey enough for taking Swann apart. Important to remember Swann picked up couple of wickets including hussey in 1st innings. Indian team ripped apart Swann on 5th day on torn apart track. There is only so much a pitch can do.

Lesson for the BCCI. Don't get cowed down by the noises made by the visiting teams and prepare pitches suiting the home team's needs. But does the BCCI care? Money is flowing in, who cares about these minor issues.

I agree with you. But the point of the post is that, playing steyn and morkel is considered as a holy grail, whereas playing kumble at kotla is considered as a inferior skill.

I will not think that the latter is considered inferior by any fair minded analyzer. Gavaskar's 96 in Bangalore is hailed as one of the best (if not the BEST) innings every played by a batsman on a turning track facing two world class spinners (from Pakistan). If your point is some people do not realize such things and do not make fair applauses for them, it is their problem(lack of fair analyzing ability).

Can you point me to the highlights of some deliveries which spun and bounced? And are you conceding that Swann is no good as a spinner because he was not able to use the supposed 'spin and bounce' of Perth?

The dismissal of Hussey in 1st innings on 1st day will tell you as much as you need to know about the pitch and what a good spinner can get out of it. As for your second statement, you missed my point. The Perth Track is not a spinner's paradise which is far cry from saying that it has nothing for them. If you haven't been noticing the media, Swann has been criticized for his perfomance in 2nd innings and Strauss for not setting the right fields and bowling him for only 9 overs. And Hussey played him brilliantly in 2nd innings. Swann is a top bowler but he had a bad game.

A Sporting Track is one which has something in it for everyone.I say Tracks at the Gabba (generally), Durban, Wankhede are very sporting tracks. Sporting tracks are very often, confused with "Result-oriented" tracks, although there isn't much different between them, there is a small line of demarcation that can be drawn between them.Sporting track fulfills demand for everyone, it has some good pace and carry, good bounce, some grass on it early on for bowlers, and pace and bounce for batsmen to play strokes.Later on, the spinners come into the act, with some turn and bounce, some balls biting the surface, etc. On the other hand, Result oriented tracks will include Green tops, Rank Turners, Dustbowls which although are not sporting but will fetch you quick results.We definitely don't want one team to hold the advantage from the word go (i.e at the toss).So to eliminate such possibilities, one must prepare a "sporting Track" which doesn't give any substantial advantage at the toss, and gives equal opportunity for the other team to make a comeback. So taking those points into consideration, I conclude that there is a dearth of "Sporting Tracks" and ICC must look into the matter and prepare a committee for changing the trends of pitches that are in operation these days.
