Cannot disagree with anything you say. I never said England would beat India or whatever but just commenting on the current strength of the sides. My point is England is a better balanced and stronger team at the moment. They have more variety in bowling and a reliable batting compared to India.

I agree with that except i feel that India has a much better batting line up. I was replying to the general tone of this thread than just your post.

Yeh Pollard is one of the greatest cricketers in the world, he earns loads of money. Also Anderson is a millionaire with a fit wife...oh the pains of being a low earning non IPL cricketer.

They are far from being the best. They have only been playing weak teams. As the guy earlier said, and i quote "In the last two years, England have won five of the eight series they have played (including the current one), drawn one and lost one. Looks good, doesn't it? But who have they won against? Twice against Bangladesh, once against Pakistan and once against Australia. And yes, the one they lost was against West Indies. Not impressive. Not enough."

Jimmy Anderson is a better bowler than Ishant anyday. England doesn't deserve to be number 1, not yet, they need to beat India in both away and home conditions, which they failed to do so. I don't think England can beat India though, we are far more superior when it comes to batting.

SL are 5th, how mediocre cant even beat the WI at home.

England are a very talented side and definitely have the potential to be number 1. At the moment, you have to say India and South Africa are the 2 best sides but England under Andy Flower seem to be going places. Their batting line-up has improved a lot, especially with Cook coming into form. Trott has been a superb find, he is the kind of player who can score a gritty hundred and anchor the innings (something Enlgand have lacked since i have started to watch cricket). England's bowling attack is very good, Tremlett's form is a massive bonus and an attack of Swann, Anderson, Broad and Tremlett is a mouthwatering proposition, especially in English conditions. I definitely think England can become the number 1 team so as an England fan i am excited. As an India fan, i think this team has been superb and i really hope we can kick and win or at least draw this SA series. Our batting line-up is outstanding and in Pujara i think we have found a future world class batsman. However, our bowling is a real worry apart from ZK. Harbhajan, Sreesanth and Ishant (he is the biggest worry for me are not consistent enough). Despite these shortcomings in the bowling department we have played like champions in recent years and one of the bowlers has always produced a superb spell when needed. I'm genuinely excited by the series next summer because if we beat or draw with the Saffers it will be a chance for England to test themselves against the best team in the world. Here is my comparison of the two likely line-ups for the 1st test next summer (in English conditions). Strauss v Sehwag (Sehwag wins, he is the best batsman in the world IMO) Cook v Gambhir ( this contest is a lot closer than i would have thought a couple of months ago due to Cook's recent form and Gambhir's struggles on lively wickets. I think it is fairly even but may give the edge to Gambhir as he has generally been superb in the last few years and he is the sort of character who will prove his class and grind out runs.) Trott v Dravid (as much as it hurts me to say this, Trott wins this one at the moment, Dravid looks in decent nick most of the time but normally falls after getting a start while Trott is delivering for England) KP v SRT (SRT by a mile) Collingwood v VVS (VVS by a mile) Bell vs Pujara (i love both of these players, Bell looks like a class act at the moment so i would give him the edge but i am convinced Pujara is a future superstar) Prior v MSD (MSD in my opinion, similar with the gloves i think but MSD is mentally tougher and a slightly better batsman) Swann v Harbhajan Singh (Definitely Swann. He has been superb in the last 2 years and is the leading spinner in world cricket. Harbhajan is too inconsistent and fails to consistently deliver wickets. He always seems to perform when people are calling for his head but that is not enough for me.) Anderson vs ZK (a close call but i have to go with Jimmy. He is the best bowler in the world in english conditions) Tremlett v Ishant (Tremlett by a mile, he looks like he could become a real weapon for England. He has been superb in the ashes and i feel he should have been given another chance earlier than he was. He is a class act. Ishant is far too inconsistent and at times bowls rubbish.) Broad v Sreesanth (Broad for me. He offers good control and has a good economy rate. On his day Sreesanth is better but that day does not come around often enough. I love the fact that both players wind up the opposition and get under their skin) I think England may have the edge for this series but it will be close. I really hope India have decent preparation for this tour because this will be a tough series. I support both sides but i would prefer India to win this because i would like our legends to retire in a couple of years having been part of a superb test team that proved themselves to be number 1 in the world. PS. Sorry if it was a bit boring reading this, i got a bit carried away.

England is a very good team. Though Aus is at its weakest, it has to be said that defeating Aus in Aus is a huge achievement. I think it would be stupid to under estimate Eng but I think like other good teams (India, SA, SL), Eng have their own weaknesses. I don't think Eng can beat India or SL in the sub-continent. India Vs Eng will be a very interesting series. It is not going to be a cakewalk for anyone.

i dont think england can call themselves the best team until they win a test series in the subcontinent. india are expected to prove themselves in SA, england, australia, etc. so why should expectations for england be any different. they are bossing crappy teams on their home soil but havent proven anything away from home yet. they lost their last series in SL, india and pakistan, they couldnt even beat WI away from home, being bowled out for 52 by one of the crappiest teams in cricket
