If India wins it will be Laxman. If India loses it will be Sachin
this is a take from the other vvs thread and not called for, but couldn't help but :giggle:

35 votes and just the 1 expecting and hoping Laxman top scores in the deciding test. No pressure there then! Almost half of you, however, expect Tendulkar to top score.

However if VVS/RD score 100s India will win or draw.If Sachin scores big,India will most probably lose or draw.Still don't mind if SRT can get his 51st as it will put him further out of reach of Punter and Kallis.

:hatsoff::hatsoff: It's unusual to see that kind of cricket acumen elsewhere except here. Long live ICF.

Going by the law averages and the wonderful form Sachin is in over the last 2 years, it will be the safest best to pick him over everyone else to score the most. Hence SRT over everyone else for me to score the most runs for India in the Cape Town Test.

Let's create some threads already bashing SRT a bit more, since the law of averages would mean that SRT should fail after a very good time in the middle.

Almost half of you' date=' however, expect Tendulkar to top score.[/quote'] Don't you think the pressure has been reduced enormously thanks to the 2nd test win? Also, pressure builds during a test depending on wickets on hand, target, pitch condition, charging bowlers, etc. Pressure is infinite times more when you are down 0-1 on a crazy ass bowlers paradise than when you are 1-1 on a batting friendly one. That said, even if you had this poll before the 2nd test, the results would probably have been the same. Reason being the fans have a higher expectation of Sachin than others. Who actually does well under pressure isn't necessarily same as what fans think before a match as to how the players will perform.

Less than 1 in 35 expect Laxman to top score. Should he fail how many will feel aggrieved. Nobody.

I guess many folks are expecting those who have mostly failed in the last two tests to finally come good on a pitch that is expected to be sporting. If that's what you expect then you wouldn't pick someone batting at 5 or 6 or 7 to top score, would you? It would be the one from the top 4, no?

That's a good point which however focuses solely on the pressure faced due to fan expectations. Players have come to expect this from their fans. There is also the pressure from something called match situation which is the big variable from inning to inning.

The fans, the media, Indian ex-players, opposition ex-players, blogs, forums, records. All of this creates pressure and nobody has had to grapple with more than what Tendulkar has. Laxman is a pressure-eating freak we should all be eternally grateful for. Yes he deals with impossible match situations better than anyone in the world. As this poll suggests, it helps that he's not expected to do much before a ball is bowled. Tendulkar on the other hand is fully expected to add another hundred, just like that.
