I think the concept is the same as yours. The common belief is that South India = AP + Kerla +TN + Karnataka etc. Inhabitants of these regions can be called Madrasi. Rest of India = north.
I would never call a Maharashtrian northie. That's ridiculous. I am sure Raj Thackeray would agree with me. Similarly, I find me being called a Madrasi stupid too. :cantstop:

Yeah, calling all South Indians Madrasi does not make sense, but I guess it's a bit of a harmless joke by North Indians.

I remember from my experiences especially in the BIMARU states that people are genuinely ignorant. I remember an incident when a guy in UP got offended when I (from Kerala) and my friend (from AP) were conversing in English. He thought that we were trying to give him a complex because he didnt know proper English. He told someone 'Why dont these guys speak to each other in Madrasi?'

:haha::haha: That is more of ignorance. And yes, these are some individual idiots. You should not generalize on that.

Its the ignorance, the lack of effort to understand others' culture that gets on my nerve.

Can't be said same for Hyderabad... You only have all those tiffin centres or have to go to old city for some chaat etc... :beee:

Food habits are changing in the South now expecially among kids..They are all now lining up for the usual American Junk food joints. Generally tranditional Indian foods are mostly healthy...not so sure about Pizzas, burgers etc as regular food.

I find north Indian food way too spicy and rich: especially Punjabi food. And I find South Indian food nice, but not something I can consume everyday without inviting serious attacks of acidity. I find east Indian food healthy: low fat content, less oil and healthy. Or may be I am more used to it since I have eaten east Indian food since birth. Bur generally, Indian food is not necessarily very healthy.

But there are less additives in Indian food. Some of the stuffs they add to american fast food is really horrible. They stuff so much calories into small portions.
