Batting was not easy because of the ball movement and added pressure of wickets falling like nine pins mostly because of lazy running by Rahul and Laxman. BTW Was tendulkar out on this ball and not given by ump 50.2 Steyn to Tendulkar, no run, 126.4 kph, Shout for a catch by Boucher .. Steyn didn't go up until very late. And it looks like an edge too! Tendulkar leaned across to stab an outswinger that curved away to take the edge. Boucher lunged forward to take the catch clenaly. He went up right away but Steyn didn't and only joined in the appeal late. Which means the bowler didn't hear the noise and the umpire didnt hear or see the deflection. Drama here at New Lands.

NO he wasn't out .. later super slow camera reveled that the ball had bounced before it reached boucher.... therefore..even though he nicked it he wasn't out ...

Yes - here is the breakup: (runs/balls) Gambhir - 14/36 Sehwag - 4/15 RD - 2/6 SRT - 23/83 Che - 1/8 Bhajji - 13/18 ZK - 18/12 IS - 0/1 SS - 0/4 ~14 out of 31 overs that Steyn bowled - out of which 6 overs Gambo faced. So - not maximum overs - not at least while Gambhir was also around. But he did shield Bhajji for some time. Interesting to see that ZK and Bhajji scored 31 runs between them off 5 overs from Steyn..

Deleted_User_1 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I have said that I will say it again.....SRT is the best batsman (Test or ODIs) that I have seen, undoubtedly the greatest batsman of the modern era, and arguably the best batsman ever. The sheer volume of runs he has scored, and the pressure he has played under speak volumes. The most complete batsman ever. There is NO doubt that he has performed under pressure. NO Doubt. Even though he has delivered for India in spades, I still think that VVS has played more knocks than SRT that has positively influenced the outcome of test for India. The difference is slight, but it is there. This is no knock on SRT and he is clearly a better batsman than VVS, but the MVP tag for the latter cannot be ignored. GO SRT!! P.S. Just because I idolize him (and I idolized SMG as well), does not mean I cannot criticize his shortcomings. I found his not shielding the tail in the first test to avoid a innings defeat odd and he did have a poor second test where he could have avoided the dismissals. But I guess he is human after all.

I was looking for the numbers for third day only that too for the time when Sachin was batting. I saw first spell of Steyn which Sachin absorbed completely while Gambhir took care of Morkel. I read that in later spell he shielded Bhajji from Steyn. For last spell of Steyn he was not on the crease. PS - Sorry, had not seen your subsequent posts before replying your above mentioned post.

Still not purely 3rd day's figure - as yesterday Gambhir and Sachin shared, but today - clearly it was Sachin who faced most of Steyn and Gambhir saw off Morkel.
