And spinners bowled double that (142 overs) the moot point is he succeeded in 6/7 times when he bowled in India. Now all these must have been green pitches, weren't they?
That does not make it a spinners den.In india spinners bowl maximum even on flat pitches. It was good wicket which even helped the fast bowlers with zak picking wickets. It was no way a spinning track.

The irony.. so why are you comparing him with likes of garner/ hadlee and trueman? Statistically Steyn matches upto any player who played cricket in the modern era (post 1960/70). Strike rates are an important part of the game' date=' his strike rate trounces that of likes of hadlee/ mcgrath/ ambrose etc. And his average is not far off. All the bowlers in the previous eras had bowlers who were as good as them, with the exception of Steyn.[/quote'] :hysterical: you first make foolish statements and then say i am comparing eras.Who u had in mind when u said steyn was among top 3 bowlers of all time - Zaheer khan,Jimmy anderson,Swann.

Dude - you seem to perennially ignore the second part of the statement? Let me repeat - Steyn succeeded in 6/7 proper bowling innings he did in India. All these were on greenies?

thnx! if u have time fine averages and stats in countries like stats in south africa, india etc cos i hear this a lot tht akram bowled more in subcontinent this argument is only valid if he did better away from subcontinent otherwise should not be used if he performed similarly or worse akram himself siad he hated extra bounce in australia as it did not suited his style of getting wicket

Offcourse he did well..Btw we are comparing to akram who played on some real flat tracks in his first tour of 5 test matches. My point is akram played mostly on sc tracks and bowled day in day out which would take toll

Dale Steyn (currently 118 innings) 323 test wickets, strike rate of 40.8, average of 22.67. five 10fers, 21 5fers. Wasim Akram (after 118 innings) 291 test wickets, strike rate 53.3, average of 22.74. three 10fers, 20 5fers. Similar averages but look at the big difference in number of wickets, and the massive difference in strike rate. Looking at it objectively, I don't see any reason to think Wasim was any better a bowler than Steyn, Wasim's overall stats are even worse than this.

And Steyn didn't play on flat tracks in India? Chennai - 2008 - Sehwag 300 - Nuff said - 32-104-4 Ahmedabad - 2008 - Blasted away India for 76, SA in return scored nearly 500 before they declared. India followed up with a better than usual 3rd innings number of 328. Steyn - 5/23 and 3/91 Kanpur - 2008 - 3/71 on a wicket on which spinners dominated. Nagpur - 2010 - 7/51 and 3/57 on a pitch where SA amassed 558/6 batting first. Clearly the pitch must have turned green post SA innings All these performances were on greeny beanies? I don't think so.

The results point out to the diff.Pakistan had a allround attack so there spinners also came in to picture where.I believe akram played on dead wickets in india pak matches where losing was considered to be unacceptable for most part.

to be fair england is much stronger now and steyn played one series vs them as raw pacer.. and this time got flat pattas in australia in 2 games got usual track at perth and he was all over them i just cant compare them as i never saw akram in his prime but steyn has been bloody good as well he might not have akram's tricks like to swing both ways but his out swinger is deadly swinging from stumps..thats just magical..i guess in this case u oldies know better :beee:

Dude! Look at the scores in the matches Steyn played! eg - Nagpur where SA amassed 530 odd. You are basically penalizing Steyn for his astounding performance because apparently he helped in SA creating results in the match.
