Dhoni captaincy review thread..

Dhoni needs to learn how to attack without leaking runs more unless he does that his captaincy will not evolve to greater heights. He at first sign of attacking shot from batsman spreads the field , by not conceding boundaries he thinks he can manage the game but he has hurt Indian team more by allowing easy singles. He has already lost two opportunities to ram home the advantage ,once in NZ in third test by not declaring sooner and here yesterday where he totally lost the plot.

Well said  Captains should not be always judged by their stats, Dhoni is not rallying his troops like a great captain should. He isn't taking the fight to the opposition - we had them at 130 odd for 6 !! - that is the time a captain should step in and finish the job, if our bowlers(harbhajan) were good enough to reduce them to 130 for 6..and the like of Sreesanth and Zaheer clearly proven themselves in the series..it was upto dhoni to up the ante - surround the batsmen with fielders -give them the license to talk a lot of smack and unsettle a temperamental Boucher, but all he did was ridicule the players who did try to unsettle the batsmen previously. And Steven Waugh's response to all the racist taunts by his players at opposition batsmen : "Mental disintegration", His field placement after that was :fail:, he is nowhere close to a great captain - not by a country mile. Stats lie about a lot of things
Lets hope he doesn't struggle when the legends retire.
Lol. Your post is hopelessly wrong. Dhoni has already shown tht he can win without key players' date=' is an excellent man-manager does extract the best out of a player and backs the player to the hilt. Sresanths case is an exception imo.[/quote'] The point is, he sometimes backs absolutely ludicrous players while showing little faith in a dude who may be having a bad patch. In purely accounting terms, there is gotta be Debit and there is gotta be Credit.
believe it or not..captains can hugely influence selection -especially Dhoni. Isn't this the same guy who once threatened to quit captaincy if he doesn't get the players he wants or something..
Yep. That point is right. Ganguly fought for Canada bound Bhajji when he almost quit. He got his way. Dhoni fought for RP. He got his way.

it was something :) It was a rumor that Dhoni threatened to quit because RP was included in the side but it's obviously untrue.

Dhoni had awful series as a captain to be honest. He was awful in first test and he had no clue how to stop their run flow don't put he blame all on bowlers there.Second test there was no skill needed there bowlers on top so he did not have to do much there . Third test match was there for taking for India but he let them off the hook ,he can blame bowlers all he wants but he not attacking more when batsmen is on king pair and allowing him to easy into his innings was almost criminal and Indian team paid for his lack of aggression.

and the sad part is he will be the center of attraction amoung our public for the next couple of months because "He led us to a draw against the mighty saffers on their turf" , conveniently forgetting that we were in a position to whip them bad !

His field placings are inexplicable and ultra defensive..He will plug all places being a reactive captain, but will never have a 3rd man and leaks so many runs in that area.. The less we talk about his bowling changes the better.. He will get his **** handed over to him once the Maharathis fail or retire.. Could happen as early as the England series..

I didnt get it' date=' may be i have missed out on some Info. Elaborate if you can.[/quote'] In 2001, Bhajji was thrown out of NCA, Punjab Team, and had almost given up on the game. He thought about going to Canada and drive trucks for a living. Ganguly fought for his inclusion with the selectors. He repayed by picking 17-18 or maybe 21 wickets in the next series vs Australia. The rest, they say, is history. Gotta hand it to Dada. He gave us-
  1. Viru "the dashing opener"
  2. Yuvraj
  3. Bhaj
  4. Dhoni

and many more.

Agree with achillies on the point that he wrongly backed jadeja for too long. But he has shown tht we can win without zaheer like we did vs Nz and in lanka.
Yes. But the point I guess even you will agree on is that these are two teams that are kinda weak as compared to the Australian, Pom & Saf XIs. When Zak won't be around in the next 4-5yrs, its gonna be a tough task, for Dhoni does not seem to be grooming any pacer per se.

chill up.we are about to draw a series against a side which is 10 times better than ours

Fast bowler to groom,is it that easy, even to be grooomed you need to have some talent ,which is very less in Indian seamers or Domestic seamers,For me Dhoni unneccesarily backs his pathetic seamers as he did even today at the presentation ceremony

Don't be harsh. Our boys need some support. I think there aren't better bowlers than our boys in England and maybe even Australia. We can't have players like Unadkat picked for one game and forgotten completely. I can't find ONE mention of him in any thread after the 1st test. That boy is gifted. Lets not throw him off the radar, like Mithun has been.

I think you are very wrong ,look at the bench strength of England or even Australia, they have a line of fast bowlers which are actually fast ,so comparison with English or Aussie fast bowling strength is hysterical at best
