Playing for Australia could become a costly business for him these days, particularly as he is about to be paid about $23,000 a day to play in the Indian Premier League. If Hussey makes Australia's tour of Bangladesh at the end of the World Cup, that's how much he will forfeit for a couple of weeks while he is playing for his country instead of playing in the first few weeks of the IPL. Hussey went for $1.45 million in the IPL auction on Saturday to the Kings Punjab XI. All-rounder Cameron White went for $1.15 million to the Deccan Chargers. The timing was poignant. A day after they lost the Ashes to England, Australia were given a sobering reminder of how tough it will be to rebuild the nation as a Test match force. Restoring the pride of the Test cricket team sounds all good and well but Test cricket is not the all-consuming focus it once was. The big money from India means so many things that threaten Test cricket - increased power to players who have options for their future, a decreased willingness for players to work on their Test match game because T20 offers more money for less stress, the option of early retirement from first-class cricket to become a short game specialist like Dirk Nannes and Brett Lee. Why would you want to kill yourself bowling 25 overs a day when you can earn twice as much bowling four? At a time when he has reached 33 years and has not played for his country in a 50-over match for more than a year, Hussey will set himself up for life with a two-year deal. f he walked away from cricket in Australia to make sure he was available for every moment of the IPL who could blame him? But he would be a sorry loss to the Australian game because he is just the sort of hard-nosed performer Australian cricket needs.

Let's face it, test cricket will be a thing of the past. I hate that format the most. Who the hell has 5 days to spend to watch a match in this modern time ... Just cause the oldies had nothing better to do in their era, they wasted 5 days playing test. There is to much to even waste time on 50-50 these days. In a few days ODI's will be the new test and 20-20 will be the new odi's ... Either way money talks. No one will let go of 1 million $ just to play for the country.

So he is 33 and hasn't yet played a test for them. So why bring IPL in to the equation? Cause that is the common theme for many to try to blame the IPL for anything and everything they can.
hussey is not even in oz ODI team..he play t20 only for them
