Players in the "catchment area" of the IPL teams

Every franchisee will be able to select four domestic uncapped players from the neighboring or "catchment area" of the team as per the IPL rule. So, Mumbai will need to purchase at least 4 players of Mumbai/Maharastra locality. So, here are a few players of that list from cricinfo. Dhawal Kulkarni (Mumbai), Ajinkya Rahane (Mumbai), Iqbal Abdulla (Mumbai), Manish Pandey (Karnataka), T Suman (Hyderabad), R Satish (Tamil Nadu), Siddarth Trivedi (Gujarat), Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (Bengal), Harmeet Singh (Punjab), Rajat Bhatia (Delhi) Pinal Shah (Baroda) The first three looks good for Mumbai or even Pune, Pandey is for BRC, Pinal Shah and Trivedi would go to Gujarat I suppose, Singh for Punjab, Bhatia for Delhi, Jhunjhunwala might go to KKR, Suman will remain with DC I suppose and Sathish might go to CSK this time. Pune and Kochi hardly seems to have left with "catchment area". I would like to know more about the exact catchment area/Ranji teams of the various IPL teams if anyone has details. I would also like to know more about star players from those catchment areas. :hmmm:

Revised catchment areas The IPL has changed the catchment areas for the existing franchises because of the addition of two new teams from the 2011 season. Teams have to include four players from their catchment area in the squad of 30. * Mumbai Indians: Mumbai, Baroda * Royal Challengers Bangalore: Karnataka, Goa * Deccan Chargers: Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa * Chennai Super Kings: Tamil Nadu, Railways * Delhi Daredevils: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal * Kings XI Punjab: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir * Kolkata Knight Riders: West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam, Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur * Rajasthan Royals: Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra * Pune Warriors: Maharashtra, Vidarbha * Kochi: Kerala, Services, Madhya Pradesh Source
So you just need to select atleast 4 players from your catchment area in the squad of 30 but that does not mean you cant get them from other areas I guessing. You can still go out of your catchment area and sign the players in addition to the 4 from your catchment area.
It has also clearly categorised these uncapped players into three types and set wage limits for each. Those players who made their debut in the last two years will be paid Rs 10 lakhs ($22,000); those in the field for two to five years would get Rs 20 lakhs and those with more than five years' experience Rs 30 lakhs. Those two conditions together have raised fears among the franchises - which Mallya vocalised on Sunday - that, far from protecting them from inducements, the system leaves them open to bidding wars that could violate the salary cap. More so because some of these players (see sidebar) could, in open auction, command several times the maximum they can under the BCCI's rules. The only differentiator in a level playing field, it is feared, will be under-the-table deals. http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2011/content/story/496130.html
So they've set price limits for the uncapped players - the max being 66,000 USD depending on the player's experience. So someone like Manish Pandey would only fetch a max of $44,000? Now do you really expect a straight forward honest bidding with this setup? For example, 2-3 teams will offer the players the max amount. Expect a lot of shady deals. They should also have been put in the auction IMO. While the BCCI was trying to protect the interests of the youngsters so that they work hard to earn that national cap before getting huge IPL amounts, the way it will be done now will be a lot of off the radar deals.

KXIP Catchment Areas and Players No real standouts but some of the bowlers can be effective with their medium pace swing and the spinners can be ok as well i.e Bipul Sharma. J/K Abid Nabi: medium pacer Himachal Manvinder Bisla (batsman/wk) - rides his luck but gave a few good starts for KXIP last season as opener Rishi Dhawan - medium swing bowler Vikramjeet Malik (bowler) Punjab Openers: Sunny Sohal, Sarul Kanwar,Karan Goel Mandeep Singh ( former u19 - great fielder but had tough time with KKR - promising Test/ODI but not sure if t20 is his forte but worth a punt) Good utility spiners who can swing the bat a bit: Bipul Sharma a very good buy(KXIP), Rahul Sharma(Deccan) Other Spinner: Sarabjit Ladda(Daredevils) Pacers: Okayish Harmeet, Jaskaran, Love Ablish Haryana: Not too sure about them but here are a couple of youngsters Sunny Singh Mukul Dagar Dhruv Singh and Badani

Have heard a few positive remarks about Varun Aaron...let's see if he'll be fit this time around.

Mumbai Uncapped players.. * Mumbai Indians: Mumbai, Baroda Players from Baroda 1. Ambati Rayadu 2. Pinal Shah 3. Ajitesh Argal Players from Mumbai 1. Ajinkya Rahane 2. Dhawal Kulkarni 3. Iqbal Abdullah 4. Avishkar Salvi
Fairly good. I'd add the pacer Murtuja Vahora from Baroda as a wildcard. A couple of young spinners in Bhargav Bhatt and Harmeet Singh but they're probably suited for the longer version i.e FC.

To be frank MI have got the best catchment area. They have got two Ranji powerhouses as the catchment area. Baroda at least should have gone to Pune as they are given small Ranji teams like Vidarbha and Maharastra. It looks like Ambani power made more effect than the Sahara power in this case. :winky: KKR catchment area seems to be good in terms of emerging talents and so their catchment area might be potential stars of the future. Delhi also has a good catchment and two Ranji powerhouses in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. But most of the players from these two Ranji teams are capped players and hence they are in the auction. From Delhi team, Mithun Manhas, Yogesh Nagar, Rajat Bhatia and Sangwan are good players and from UP are Chetan Sharma, Ali Murtaza, Tanmay Srivastava, Shane Warne's hyped player Kamran Khan etc. and the catchment area of DD is also quite strong. MI, CSK and DD seem to have got one of the best catchment area as they have got two Ranji powerhouses each in their catchment areas. CSK has got Tamil Nadu and Railways and both are fairly strong Ranji sides.
