Sachin=GOD Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 Why the hell can't they promote some young politicians as Cabinet Ministers - Jyotiraditya Scindhiya and Sachin Pilot are both around 42-43 years of age and have been Ministers of State for quite a few years and even now they've only been promoted to MoS (independent charge) instead of a full Cabinet rank. BTW these guys (Scindhia, Pilot, Jitin Prasad, Milind Deora etc) who obviously look like they are better politicians than Rahul Baba have had to prove themselves firstly as MPs then as MoS' and now as MoS (independent) while Rahul Baba, despite being the heir apparent, hasn't seen the need to prove himself as a Minister before being projected as the Party's PM candidate.
Sachin=GOD Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 Salman Khurshid might get external affairs ministry. Putting your life on platter for madamji also has advantages. Confirmed. What a reward he gets for corruption :hatsoff:
BeautifulGame Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I dont think Rahul Gandhi will become PM even if UPA win in 2014.Just think he will prefer to be in the background like Sonia Gandhi and promote someone else like Sonia Gandhi did with Manmohan Singh.Maybe someone like Chidambaram ? Only if Congress itself get Majority or close to majority can i see Rahul becoming PM.Otherwise we might see this Sonia - MS scenario playing out again IMO.
Trichromatic Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Confirmed. What a reward he gets for corruption :hatsoff: He might have lost points for such low amount in corruption. But I guess doing a 'Zail-Singh' might probably outweighed that loss. Loyalty > corruption.

I'm almost certain that he will become the PM if UPA retains power in 2014. He has now said that he is ready for a larger role and most probably he will get a more important responsibility within the party org soon. Then of course there's the clamor of "Rahul for PM" thats been going on for the past few years - be it the workers or senior leaders, all have pretty much accepted him as the party's future leader (even though many of them may have realized that he's not good enough). Also, members of the Gandhi family have not been known to work in the background - Sonia Gandhi did that because there was the controversy regarding her citizenship etc but the "brand" Rahul has essentially been made on the promise of being the PM one day so I really don't think he will work in the background.

Agree Nehru family never been known to work in the back ground but they never have led a coalition govt either.I always felt Sonia Gandhi not wanting to lead a fragile coalition was more important factor than her foreign issues in rejecting PM post.Obviously she didnt mind the huge positive covergae by media that accompanied that decision which portrayed her as someone made the ultimate sacrfice. Similarly dont think Rahul neither has the ability nor haas the interest in heading a coalition govt where his powers will be severely restricted.Nehru family always wanted full control rather than being dictated by smaller regional parties or communists. Also if he becomes PM then he will be directed to heavy criticism based on performances and later even his authority may be questioned.Whereas if he remains in the background he can always use someone else to shield him from criticisms. Thats why dont think Rahul will want to become PM unless congress itself gets full majority or near the 274 mark.
Nova Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 New Delhi:*The Prime Minister today said he expects today's major revamp of his cabinet to be the last for his government. Dr Manmohan Singh said that he is disappointed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has again refused to join the cabinet. The PM said Mr Gandhi is preoccupied with "party affairs" ahead of the general elections in 2014. His new cabinet - which sees a series of promotions for younger Congressmen - is a "mixture of youth and experience," said the PM. Mr Gandhi has been urged publicly by senior ministers to join the government, failing which they say the party is waiting for him to take on a "larger role." . In July this year, Mr Gandhi said that was likely, but said the timing would depend on his two bosses - his mother, Sonia Gandhi, and the Prime Minister. Sources say he may soon be named the Working President of the Congress. Today's cabinet reshuffle, which saw 22 ministers being sworn in, is believed to have been carefully designed largely by Mr Gandhi, who was sporting a beard and stood next to the PM and his mother during the national anthem that preceded the oath-taking of ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan. http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/disappointed-rahul-gandhi-hasn-t-joined-government-says-prime-minister-285226
Nova Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 ^ So, Rahul baba will be Congress President and then direct PM if congress comes to power. First, his incompetency would be out in the open if he accepted any cabinet position. Second, he wants to be the boss and does not want to work under anyone. The concept about understanding problems and gaining work experience, as a minister, does not sit well with his ego. Or may it's much easier to loot money by just staying on the sidelines. On the other hand, not getting involved in the government allows Rahul baba to tour the length and breadth of the country and strengthen his position as a future congress leader. People will see him giving speeches and then the votes come flowing in. That's one way of looking at it. The remote conrol is safe in his hands either way. Win win situation for him.
The Outsider Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 This government has gone from pitiful to abysmal.
saneindian Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 After all the talk of giving the cabinet a youthful, this is what we got? Seriously disappointed with some choices. Good to see Shashi Tharoor back and Ajay Maken getting promoted. More than the oldies, IMO the biggest let downs in UPA2 have been the young ministers likes of Scindia, Pilot, Prasada and Deora. They have done a big fat zero so far and appear in the media only when there is a panel discussion on the role RG will play in the future. With the current rejig, don't expect much to change. A comatose govt will continue in the paralysis mode for whatever time the CBI can keep the noose tight around SP and BSP.

They have not been given any kind of major responsibility so far and have only been Ministers of State - a post famous for not having any power/responsibility

They have not been given any kind of major responsibility so far and have only been Ministers of State - a post famous for not having any power/responsibility This is a myth because one can make a difference in every political position. You do not have to be at the highest level to start producing results. There should be a site where people can read about the accomplishments and track record of politicians. Only then can we really judge someone. But then it will just get filled up with misappropriations. :giggle:
King Tendulkar Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Congress are bonkers and so arrogant. But sadly the people will still vote for them.

But then it will just get filled up with misappropriations. :giggle: In case of a Minister of State, his/her mandate is pretty much restricted to what work the Cabinet Minister does (or does not) and these youngsters have been unlucky in having to work under incompetent, corrupt Cabinet ministers and many times in Ministries which have seen some of the biggest scams (like 2g scam in IT & Telecom Ministry, Defense scams etc at the time when these people where MoS' there). Now they have been given independent charge of important ministries so lets see what "Team Rahul" can do...
ganeshran Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Turns out Reddy was shunted out of the oil ministry because he opposed RIL.
Sachin=GOD Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 Turns out Reddy was shunted out of the oil ministry because he opposed RIL. the UPA Govt (both 1 & 2) has removed 3 Oil Ministers (Mani Shankar Aiyar, Murli Deora and now Reddy) and its said that all 3 have been removed because in one way or the other, they displeased the big business houses.
ganeshran Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 the UPA Govt (both 1 & 2) has removed 3 Oil Ministers (Mani Shankar Aiyar' date=' Murli Deora and now Reddy) and its said that all 3 have been removed because in one way or the other, they displeased the big business houses.[/quote'] Deora is very close to the Ambanis. He and Dhirubhai were thick as thieves and suitcases routinely used to pass between them during the license raj. Deora's problem was that just like Prafull Patel, his policies were very harmful to the state run entities and but he wasnt a part of an important ally, was expendable. Reddy on the other hand resisted Ambani pressure on multiple issues including gas pricing, his exit was inevitable.

Reddy on the other hand resisted Ambani pressure on multiple issues including gas pricing, his exit was inevitable. :agree: he was removed because many other companies thought that he favored the Ambanis too much. Mani Shankar Aiyar always had the habit of saying the uncomfortable truth so he wasn't acceptable to many and thus was removed. And Reddy had the image of a clean guy who wanted to clean up the Petroleum mess but that too wasn't acceptable to many. Now we have Veerappa Moily, a man who has had his portfolio changed in almost every major reshuffle in UPA - he was Corporate Affairs Minister then Law Minister and then Power Minister and now he is Petroleum Minister.

I don't understand this fetish for so called young politicians in congress, only these three names are propagated in Media. They have got elected only from their family seats, have yet to demonstrate any remarkable vision or achievement on the ground, and just because they can speak good English, look good in designer clothing, and appear to be intelligent does not necessarily make them intellectuals or able leaders or for that matter, able administrators. Every time during cabinet reshuffle , English media goes mad about so called three young guns , as if we don't have anyone else to represent youth who has not come from Dynasty politics.
