Robelinda Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Found this 30 min compilation i did years ago of Ricky Ponting run outs, some others chucked in there too. My god, he is the best ive ever seen, and i could probably do another 30 min one of his run outs in the last 5 years. Manny_Pacquiao Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 best fielder ever in my opinion. definitely better than the overrated jonty rhodes.
Laaloo Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Woow. Awesome fielder :adore: Some of this stuff is absolute gold. Thanks for sharing
Sachin=GOD Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 BTW - how come the 1st post in this thread has a like button at the bottom while no other post/thread has one since the changes a few days ago??? Not that I'm complaining :winky:
Chaos Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 best fielder ever in my opinion. definitely better than the overrated jonty rhodes. please jump off ur balcony now : P... punter > jonty? joke of the milli....:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
Robelinda Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Jonty was a more spectacular ground fieldsman, but no way was he better at run outs, he rarely hit the stumps. Great at saving runs with huge dives. The myth of Jonty grows every year, but completely owns him in terms of run outs, even while Jonty was still playing. That summer of 97/98 Ponting really dominated in the field and left Jonty in the dust. Same in 2002 as well.

Same in 2002 as well.[/quote'] well said jonty was a better shot stopper than ponting, but in terms of catching, run outs and throwing, ponting is the best. he gets rid of the ball quicker than any fielder i have seen, can hit even the 1 stump from a right angle. u dont run a single on ricky ponting. symonds is another amazing fielder i rate above jonty. jonty's fielding is overrated solely by kids that have seen nothing other than the 20 second clip of his run out of the fat **** inzamam.
Robelinda Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 He did do some amazing work in the field, but one or two amazing youtube snippets doesnt make a career. He wasnt the greatest catcher either, I was a big fan of his work back in the day, but everyone knew Ponting was better at runouts, it was always mentioned at the time that Ponting and Jonty excelled at different areas of fielding. Ponting got more wickets though with his crazy accurate arm, which has remained as dangerous as it was back in the 90's.
Cricketics Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Robelinda. I am big Jonty fan, but agree with you all what you wrote. Also at same time, I don't think plenty of people know Ponting is considered a good fielders by many, he doesn't get much respect which he should as a fielder. I think this is where the difference between good and great can be seen. He is really the great fielder which Cricket has seen. In his mid 30s, he still is perhaps the best fielder going around with ABD Villers rite now. Ponting, the batsman is equally great as Ponting, the fielder.
Robelinda Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 He is one of the first to regularly hit the stumps, over his whole career, not just a small patch of form for instance like you see other guys do. You expect top order batsmen to be good at batting and there are so many but its rare that a top order batsman is a brilliant fieldsman right through a career, and even more rare that a great batsman could be so deadly accurate and affect so many run outs. This video only shows those up to 1999, I should do a video showing all his runouts from 2000 to 2011, will go for hours!
vpg0002 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Punter on the prowl. One of the greatest cricketers from Oz.
