Ram Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Why do you guys behave as though this is the first time we’re facing after that WC match in 2007? We have played against them several times after that and havent lost a single time in that time-frame. The most pertinent set of matches were the ones that we played in B’desh, in the tri-series we played with them and Lanka exactly a year ago. And in that, we won both our matches against them comfortably, thanks in no half measure to man named Virat Kohli. Their most recent ODI team composition escapes my memory, but they’re EXTREMELY reliant on three aspects of their team – Tamim, lower-middle order (Shakib, Mahmadullah, Mushfiqur) and their spinners. I don’t see how these alone can threaten us to dangerous proportions. The worst possible scenario for us would be if B’desh win the toss, bat first and Tamim plays a scorcher and they score in excess of 300 and when we begin our chase, their kindergarten pace attack nips out a quick couple. Then, it will extremely hard for us to rebuild and accelerate, against the no.1 attack weapon of their team – spinners. I’d say we confront their biggest weapon with the our best counter against it – Yusuf. It will be a criminal waste to let Yusuf cool his heels in the dressing room, even as their spinners are bowling in the middle against guys like Yuvraj and Dhoni, who are quite frankly at this point, not in the best of nicks. Yusuf is at his devastating best against spinners and their biggest strength is their spin attack. If we can hit them where it hurts the hardest, there’s a good chance it will completely demoralize them. Besides, Yusuf’s in the form of his life atm and we have to strike the iron while its still hot. If he begins the tournament well, we could keep mik this cow all the to the bank and beyond.
Fontaine Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Hell no. We've got a full strength batting lineup and there's no excuse to start wobbling in the group stage. I expect the experienced seniors to play like their lives depended on it because for more than a few it'll be their last world cup.

What are you saying dude? Our early exit in the 2007 was COMPLETELY predictable. Our team of 2007 was in total tatters! For starters, relations between Guru Greg and the senior coterie had completely broken down by then. Even within the team itself, there was a solid split down the middle, with Greg and Dravid on one side and Sachin+Bhajji+Sehwag on the other, with a neutral bunch left in the lurch, in the middle. Greg had wanted the team to move in a completely different direction, at least in the limited overs format - He was preparing for a complete transition from the older bunch to the younger brigage (Yuvraj, Dhoni, Raina, Uthappa). The seniors, obviously revolted. The whole episode of demoting the world’s most successful opener to no.4 was a part in that process. To complicate things, Ganguly had just made a comeback into the ODI team with a string of deceptively good performances in the ODI series we played just prior to the cup, against Windies and Lanka. I use the word ‘deceptive’ because he made runs in a manner that was good enough to cement his place in the team for the WC, but the actual utility value of those runs that he made were certainly debatable. And Uthappa too, had played some blazing innings in the months leading to the WC, which seemed to have convinced Greg that he is our solution to all the WC strategy problems. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Dravid by then had pretty much reached the twilight of his ODI career. In fact, he was duly dropped from the ODI side for the B’desh series that followed, only to make a stuttering comeback in the India-Aus series played in the Oct-Nov of 2007, only to be completely dropped again. Back the, our only hope of making any substantive progress in the tournament rested on two guys – Yuvraj and Dhoni – and unfortunately, both of them failed when it mattered (Yuvraj clouted some massive sixes against a hapless Bermuda side, but who cares!) The team that have today is completely different side, even though many of the names look similar. For starters, our line-up is totally settled. The only open question – whether to play Kohli instead of Raina – is mere crisis of plenty, which is always good to have. Sehwag is back in the ODI side and Gambhir is a terrific addition as well. And Yusuf has only added to our hopes. All things considered, our team for the ‘07 is not match for our team for the ’11 edition .

We had also won against England also well and clear. Dravid's side was looking very strong. We definately were that time teh best batting line up, as we are rite now.

We are going to win the world cup and stuff. Than whatever happend we all know. That one game killed us. So much pressure after losing to bangla, that we failed against Lanka in tough chase.

We have won all and easily with at an average 10 overs remaining with 6 wickets in hand. The only major concern is that we let them get 250 almost every time. We cant allow that to happen and should get them for around 200. I am not worried that the opponent is BD at all. I am worried that India is still stupid enough to be slow starters. Even if the opponents were the other 2 minnows or WI, i would have been worried. Had it been either SA or Eng, i really wouldn't have cared as the result would hardly matter to qualify.

We cant allow that to happen and should get them for around 200. . i dont mind seeing them make another 250. it wont do them much good since they will be chasing approx 100 runs more than that.
jf1gp_1 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 yes i am nervous i fear for openers like tendulkar, sehwag, gambhir have to face great new ball bowlers like rubel hossan and saiful islam ; will , kohli , yuvraj, raina, dhoni , pathan able to score against spinners like sakib, razaq etc .. Dont know what will imrul kayas, junaid sidiqie do to good for nothing bowlers like zaheer khan and harbhajan singh.. If i were Dhoni i would consider this game lost
