kabira Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I wanted to start thread on having too many minnows but thread already existed. That is one issue with the WC, too many minnows. Another huge issue is scheduling. Why couldn't they play two games a day. 6-7 days break is way too much between the games. instead of this being 44 day event, this could have been concise to 30 day event.

It will lead to fewer viewers. To have 2 ODI's, some portion of the games will coincide, which means that the TV company cannot earn money for ads from the game they cannot show. Even if the games are back to back, that 15 hours of cricket in one day and it will lead to fatigue in viewers who will switch off their TVs. But obviously starting one game very early or the 2nd game closing very late will also lose viewers. Its possible with T20 and IPL but defn. not ODIs.

You are only considering your situation but the games are broadcasted in 180 countries.

True not every sports station has multiple channels, but you then guys in Nederland will only watch their team games. Same thing happens in Football worldcup, last league games are played simultaneoulsy, I am sure followers of particular team will watch the game that they are interested.

How can he watch the Aus Vs Zim today when they show Eng Vs Ned. Or how about in US or Canada. Who gets to decide which game to air? It really doesnt matter if football does it.If ICC wanted a shorter WC, they could have easily dropped the minnows from participating. But they didn't. They want more air time. The TV rights holder wants more air time. Adding another channel or choosing which games to show all adds logistical problems.

In this day and age, most of the game you can watch online and choose what to watch. Should not be problem As I said reducing minnows would have been great. Just spare a thought for players they are under tight security and for 5, 6 days they are stuck at same place, they can do all the practice, but it gets boring for them as well.

From the format to the scheduling. They could have easily had a shorter, tighter tournament. But instead they decided to have a long winded and boring WC. Making it 10 teams for the next WC is a start but i am sure they will find a way to increase the number of games anyway.

putrevus Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 two games in day is must, this is just ridiculous, they have made this huge mess and killed the total tournament with this long schedule of crappy games between real matches. At least they should have made sure when minnows are playing they have double headers those days so they can finish them faster.
