Should Bhaji be guaranteed a spot?

No sign of the blind lover KT yet in this thread! Strange :hmmm: Bhajji is the best we have, unfortunately, he is miles better than the rest of his competition. I dont know why Bhajji is even being discussed here, Chawla is the worst amongst this lot and its Ashwin not Kumble who is sitting out. If anything we should be questioning Chawla's selection and his performances.

Was Dhoni drinking bhaang or something and celebrating Holi prematurely by saying those things? According to Dhoni, Harbhajan will step up to the plate, but only when it became slightly hotter. "Well Harbhajan reacts to aggressive cricket in a different way. If the opposition are not playing aggressive cricket, he also lays down. It won't be the case as soon as we are playing against some of the bigger sides who will look to go after him. The better the opposition, Dhoni believes, the better Harbhajan will be. "As the tournament heats up you will see a different Harbhajan Singh; when we are playing against better opposition, you will see the best of Harbhajan Singh." What about England then? Weren't they aggressive? Utter crapola... Dhoni offered a rather strange explanation for the fields he has set for Harbhajan so far. "At the group stages, I don't want to have a forward short leg or silly point because I don't want any player to get injured. That is one of the reasons we have been restricted to using a leg slip." Great, then why play in the WC at all? Jesus Christ... These have got to be some of the lamest excuses I've heard in a while, and I've heard a lot.

Harbhajjan: Economical bowler. Useful lower order bat. Experienced. Fighter and a Champion player under pressure. Hence guarantees his spot....
Sure hope so..... but I can't help remembering how Misbah-ul-Haq simply TORE HIM APART in that T20 Final in 2007........ three 6s in 1 over:omg: I still remember Bhajji's expression after all these years... he really looked as if he was on the verge of bursting into tears ! Pakistan would have won that match easily if Misbah hadn't played a silly shot against Joginder Sharma. I really hope India wins this WC, one way or the other( lotsa luck needed !), but PLEASE DON'T talk about Bhajji's (non-existent) Fighting and Champion qualities:giggle:

One of bhajji's many match-winning performances under pressure (selected this one coz this was against your team): [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SRvbPcsSj0]YouTube - Asia cup 2010-Final overs Harbhajan Singh vs Shoaib Akhter[/ame]

So, anyone who isn't impressed with Bhajji is a Paki ?? Enlightened, broad-minded fellow you are:rolleyes: And anyway....... AHHHH, I didn't know that Bhajji was in the Team for his batting prowess not bowling ! You even proved Dhoni wrong.... we're going into every match with EIGHT batsmen not 7 ! I stand corrected ! My mistake bro !:hysterical:

:P No, but you are basing your judgment on one old T20 match though which is not fair

Harbhajan has been disapointing so far but he is very much a confidence bowler. When he picks up a wicket early in this spell he's a completely different bowler. He threatens to take a wicket every over but it's the exact opposite when he doesn't take wickets. He becomes too defensive and really loses confidence. I don't think he should be dropped because all of our spinners except for Yuvraj have been hit and miss. Plus Bhajji always brings his best game against Australia so if we're playing them in the quarter finals or onwards then he's a must.

Bhaji will come good in the knock out games, I dont think we have to worry about him at this moment. He is a competitor which you need in the team in crunch time and when the pressure is on I am sure Bhaj will come good.

OK.... I agree that it may not have been totally fair.... I don't watch cricket all that much, except WC and T20, so I could be wrong . Only, that T20 Final sorta stuck in my mind ! No hard feelings !

Nobody's denying that Bhajji is not a compititor or not a good bowler... I think he was forced to bowl negativly, flat because of Dhoni as a captain not backing his bowling up. Bhajji is an aggressive bowler and needs an attaking field setting and even if he goes for runs the field should be attacking for him. Dhoni balmes opposition batsmen being defensive to Bhajji's bowling but he himself is a pretty defensive captain. And he changes his bowlers so quickly that instead of un-settling batsmen, he ends up un-settling his own bowlers..His on-field captaincy has pretty much become very predictable.. Atleast I'm not asking Bhajji to be dropped. I'm frustrated because Bhajji is bowling negative. He should take a postive approach in his bowling and not try to come round the wicket most of the time. Round the wicket bowling suits bowlers like Murali who can bowl deadly wrong ones..

He can take wickets. But he just doesn't bowl attacking line anymore. Netherlands players played him with ridiculous ease from the get go. As someone said Bhajji is competitive as long as batsman doesn't go after him. Once they are after him you can see him wearing a resigned look.

Thats crazy, Harbhajan takes wickets 50-2, you lot critize him for his economy rate. He gives away 30 for 0, you lot critize him for his wickets. While at the same time, you are demanding the inclusion of Ashwin who is primarily a bowler with good economy rate other the latter
Why does it have to be an either/or scenario? After so many years of experience is it too much for us to expect him to take the role of a senior player and win india matches? Players defend good bowlers like Steyn, Murali, Warne all the time. Dont they still wicket and go for less runs barring exceptions?
