Dhoni behavior is akin to what a stubborn mule does!

That's the nature of the leg spinner business. get used to it high risk but the pay off is very high if it comes good...but the attempt has to be made. also chawla has around 6 years of development at FC/international level now.the team management obviously felt now its not beyond piyush to come good now,..like harbhajan did the 2001 series vs australia fromthe second test onwards. piyush comes with rippers that harbhajan does not....but they are patches of brilliance dogged by some short balls ,wrong line and length balls during the death overs ...they want piyush to move beyond this patches of briliance and give the payoff that will win matches. its just our bad luck its our leggie who is trying to find his range while even the mediocre past india reject, balaji rao has 7 wickets for canada!

he took 4 wickets in Aust warm up' date=' didnt he??[/quote'] Let us keep him for warm up matches. For real matches we need someone else. He was absolutely stuffed by 3 teams in a row. Yet you want confirmation he is crap?

There in lies the problem. He didn't exactly set the first class or List A games alight when he was picked. He didn't even have a good IPL. How come you randomly pick a guy and hope for him to improve? If a guy like Kohli fails i would say give him chance. Because he was in red hot form walking into this world cup. So he deserves it. On what basis you can give a run for Chawla who hasn't played international for ages. Look at Tahir. Look at Chawla. Chawla is way way behind Tahir.

Probably it takes a longer time for leg spinnerswrist spinners to get into their groove. maybe that is why he is being played. Leg spinners surely also provide variety to the attack. That said, I rate ashwin over chawla any day...
That Tahir guys is a Leg spinner.. How much time he took to 'get into the groove'.. I'm pretty sure the selections are going on a place to place basis. So when the match is in Delhi, local guy Nehra plays. When the match is in Chennai, Ashwin plays..Nobody can stop Dhoni or team management in whatever they are doing but atleast Dhoni shouldn't give stupid comments in the media related to team selections..He should just say that the "team management" has decided to go with this team.. That's it..No need to say anything like, "short of confidence, full of confidence, he need more time to practice etc.".. Most of the fans are getting desperate because of the fact that only Zak along with UV (who is actually a part time bowler) appear to be strke bowlers or capable of taking wickets..All others are appearing to be just going through the motions.. The less I say about Bhajji the better. He's not going to tak many wickets as he's become very predictable with his bowling style (coming round the wickets and hoping for an LBW). He needs to bowl over the wicket as much as possible. He might be able to bowl economically by coming round the wickets but he is cutting out chances of getting more wickets..Somebody needs to have a chat with him... His bowling is far to negative..That's why the pressure is on other bowlers to take wickets..Bhajji is not helping the team by bowling economically. He needs to help the team by TAKING WICKETS..For the last 2 matches running he went wicketless..THIS IS JUST NOT ON..

In the spectrum of leg spin bowling: [warne____________________________chawla_____________________________sachin] so, i am not sure whats your point.
You are doing Saching a great disservice by rating him below Chawla. Sachin could turn the ball a lot more than Chawla and had better control. Do you remember the googly he bowled to Moin Khan in the test we won in Pak in 2004? That was amazing and totally bamboozled Moin khan and the googly turned more than Harbhajan's off spinner :haha:

1. Is this such a bad thing when playing a minnow? 2. 'Chawla needs more confidence' is that a lie ??

if players are on your radar, you do follow their progress. Chawla was criticised for being googly bowler without a proper leg break stock delivery earlier. Maybe they found confidence in his leg break now to take him back after 3 years. that's the most probale explanation.its not about stats. its about how you are porgressing, what your skill and mental maturity level is currently at. calls have to be made on that basis. or you will have to take players like joginder and vinay kumar in red hot form. you pretty well know what they will achieve! and comparison to tahir is totally flaed. with tahir, what you see is what you get. at 32, he can only finetune and he is at at his peak. with chawla, still lots of upside potential...not the right comparison.

SO far i see no evidence for your supposed claim. 3 matches more than enough samples to judge in a world cup scenario. You talk as if Chawla is a prodigy. No he is not. IN a world cup even one player with low confidence can spoil the party for your team. If Dhoni continues this stupid experiment he will eventually suffer in a crunch match. Because Ashwin lacks practice. With everyone crying Ashwin Ashwin,, he is going to be under lot of pressure. You will have 2 failures in your hand. Instead of easing him into the side nicely, he is going to walk in with great pressure.

Yes it's a bad thing..If Chawla has been given "practice matches" against minnows the Dhoni should stick with him and not drop him in Chennai and play "local lad" Ashwin against SouthAfricans..I hope Chawla has had enough "practice and confidence" now to face the South Africans..Let's see how he bowls against them in Chennai.. Why suddenly pit Ashwin against South Africans just because he's a "local lad"? So I'm hoping a "well practiced" Chawla plays against SouthAfricans in Channai. I also hope that Tahir gets fit and plays. We'll see how both leg spinners bowl on the same track..

Why is his confidence so important? Is the whole world cup is about building confidence of Chawla?

Let me add one more thing.. I've never seen a more pathetic leg spinner than Chawla, who 'no balls' frequently, mostly bowls long hops/half trackers and obviously his height is a constraint..He's also not a good fielder off his own bowling being a roly-poly (gadraya badan) character..He'll soon be found out in crunch matches and you'll remember his crying face (natural expression)..

So you never know when he will lose the match for you.

Maybe Dhoni rates Chawla to perform better than ashwin on certain pitches and against certain oppositions(like australia) . Hence he is being given the games to get into his groove and his confidence. Against minnows, it doesnt really matter much, he could hv played Ashwin in place of yusuf\bhajji whoever for all I care...

Chawla has no bottle and can't handle pressure. As soon as anyone starts going after him he starts leaking runs and has no comebacks. For a spinner that's a big concern given the fact that spinners are generally most dangerous when batsmen are going after them and playing their shots. Chawla can't even get the tailenders out if they take him on and he cost ud the game against Eng when Eng needed 29 off 2 overs with 3 wkts in hand. His 2 6s were the reason Eng tied the game and even a near decent over would have won us the game.

I have never seen a bowler struggle so much as chawla to control the length. He was consistently short in all the matches. Even if you have a gazillion variations, but if the length cannot be controlled, the bowler is dead meat.
