Switchblade Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Link Cape Town - The Proteas suffered their first injury setback of the Cricket World Cup campaign when leg-spinner Imran Tahir was confirmed to have suffered an undisplaced fracture in his left thumb.“Imran injured himself during the game against England while attempting the caught and bowled, which dismissed Jonathan Trott,” commented Proteas’ manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee. “The X-ray that was done on Wednesday revealed a small undisplaced fracture in his left thumb. The images have been sent home to Cricket South Africa's medical committee and we are waiting for the hand specialist, Dr Mike Solomons, to give us an opinion. “His thumb has been splintered and immobilised and a decision on what happens further will be made in the next two days.

He is definitely not out of the tournament, the team manager Mohammed Moosajee said on Thursday. South Africa play India on Saturday, and in the ten days between that match and the first quarter-final they play Ireland and Bangladesh. Tahir sustained the injury - which was not to his bowling hand - while catching England's Jonathan Trott off his own bowling on Sunday. He is South Africa's leading wicket-taker in tournament, with 11 so far.
