Ultimate_Game Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Out of 5 how would you rate Indian team's performance so far in the world cup? 5 being "out of thje world" and 1 being "minnows could have done a better job". I would rate it 3 - somewhere in the middle but nothing great so far. We haven't seen one comprehensive performance so far. In the first two games our batting clicked but bowling left a lot to be desired. In the last 2 games against the minnows our bowling was mediocre but batting wasn't solid enough. And all this while our fielding, running between the wicket and team selection (continuous selection of Chawla) left a lot to be desired. I still don't know why Chawla is still being selected? What's the point of selecting someone for variety if he's not consistent enough? The scary part is that whenever batsmen, even from minnow teams, have decided to have a go against Chawla, he's conceded plenty of runs and seemed clueless. The guy simply can't handle pressure and can't even get a tailender out when the tailender is going after him. I get a feeling Ashwin will start getting games from now on. I think Dhoni is hiding Ashwin for the big matches and at the same time wanted to give Chawla one last chance in a match which India would have won anyways. Dhoni has already seen enough of Ashwin while playing in IPL and in the other games Ashwin has played and most probably he wanted to see what Chawla is capable of. Now I think he's seen enough and will move on from him to Ashwin.
Jersey #10 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 3.5/4 I haven't seen a devastating and a fully flaunted innings since Viru vs Bangla (Which was on a express highway pitch). The way we have been losing 5+ wickets against minnows, it's a little concerning for me.
vaibhav_delhi Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Not convinced with Pathan, chawla and Nehra. Rest all are doing pretty well. Marks 4/5
Mariyam Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I give us a 3 so far. We are not playing to our potential as a team. So far, we've played only one side ( at least on paper) who have the players to beat us. And we couldn't win that game. The other games have been against sides where we should win anyways. I will reserve further judgment till until after the South Africa game.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Not convinced with Pathan, chawla and Nehra. Rest all are doing pretty well. Marks 4/5 IMO Pathan has been ok. It's just he didn't get too many opportunities and today he was out caught in two minds - he wanted to go for a shot and then tried to keep the ball down resulting in his dismissal. He will do fine down the order when the only option for him is to thrash the ball. Chawla/Ashwin is a more serious problem for us and I hope Dhoni knows what he's doing
yoda Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I am giving ourselves a 2. We have struggled to beat minnows, drew against a Pathetic England after scoring a gazillion and let Bangbros pile up 280+. If we manage to beat SAF and/or WI, no matter what the score is, will up it to a 3 or even a 4 depending on how we do against them. So far, I have been disappointed, especially since we thought this team has a good chance of lifting the cup.
Sid Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Leave our performance aside : We played a tied game and Pak have lost to NZ like 1983 WC,Good omens We are winning this WC
Moncy Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 3/4 They won last 3 matches unconvincingly. Bring in Ashwin for Harbhajan. Chawla seriously needs to improve his bowling for this upcoming big match against Saffers. Yusuf Pathan should bat only at no.6. That suits him better.

The one positive is that we definitely haven't peaked yet
ganeshran Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Scratchy performance by India today. We wont do good against the better teams in the tournament by playing this way.
jusarrived Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 option 3 , just adequate for now . having Qualified for q/f ,I dont really care how we do against SA ...hopefully we start playing to our potential by the time Knock outs start .
Jersey #10 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 We have beaten three minnows so far in BD, Ire, Holand and tied with a major team England I don't even know who we fare against the stronger teams like SA and OZ and SL etc.
jusarrived Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Who voted number 1 . Thats what i wanna know compared to some of the other teams , our performance has been out of the world :winky:
Rajma Chawal Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 3. But its a good thing that we haven't peaked yet. Remember we started slowly on our way to the final in 03. Luckily for us, the format allows us to grow into the competition.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Who voted number 1 . Thats what i wanna know I am more interested to know who rated India's performance at 5 :haha: If this is 5 I would shudder to think what would 1 mean for that person :cantstop:
Switchblade Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 3 For me bowling is still a concern area for me i mean apart from ZAK and Yuvi no one looks like he is going to take a wicket.Fielding well the Captain has himself said that we cant improve it will remain the way it is.In batting i feel that in the last two games we have been a little bit patchy but i have the confidence that our batter,s will step up in the remaining games. And like every one ASHWIN should replace Chawla coz no one is going to replace HARBHAJAN and i really hope that he starts taking some wickets containing the opposing batters is not going to do the job he has to take wickets and as i have pointed out his performance in the past ICC MAJOR TOURNAMENT has been poor so hope that he will prove me wrong and improve that record.

I am really getting worried about Harbhajan. So far he's played against B'desh, Eng, Ire and Net and still he has only managed 2 measly wkts so far! I can understand that the opposition players were watchful against Harbhajan but surely a spinner of his quality should be able to take wkts against these kind of batsmen! Plus against better opponents like Aus, SA, SL, Pak, NZ if Harbhajan doesn't take wkts we will concede huge totals as those teams will score loads of runs at the end of innings if they have wkts in hand. The only way I would be fine with him going wicketless is if he concedes less than 30 runs from his quota of 10 overs during the middle period.
don_corleone840 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 5/5 with bowling attack we have its quite an achievement to top group
