asterix Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 its about time to start bowling with a spinner instead of seamer. Just play Zak and a spinner in place of Nehra/Munna. You don't need their Slow Medium Pies..Enough Pies have already been served by them..
vvvslaxman Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 its about time to start bowling with a spinner instead of seamer. If that works out.. nothing is better than that. On Indian surfaces due to abrasive nature bowling with old ball is likely to produce more results. Ofcourse you need a bit of skill to go with. It should definitely be an option.
kabira Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 ^They tried that against Netherlands...it was Delhi, very abrasive pitch. Zak and Nehra did get some reverse
pinkfreud Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 From here on Dhoni should reserve atleast 3 overs for Zak at the death like 46' date='48,50 even if it means Zak not bowling enough upfront.[/quote'] its about time to start bowling with a spinner instead of seamer. ++ Many people have been questioning why Dhoni refuses to open with a spinner. Bhajji has opened a few times and he's been very miserly.. Ashwin can also open along with Zak. If we need Zaheer in the death overs he shouldn't get all used up in the beginning and in the PPs. Our spinners are not being utilised well, and opening with Zaheer all the time is making us a tad predictable.
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Finally with slightly better distribution of bowling (still not perfect as he overused bhajji at the top). we are getting somewhere.
Switchblade Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 He changes the bowlers too much IMO during the initial stages
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 He changes the bowlers too much IMO during the initial stages Harbhajan is totally unsuitable in the initial overs. We found that against Windies. He is better with older ball. So Ashwin , Munna bhai if possible Yuvraj or Yusuf pathan (if he plays). Zak should not bowl more than 3 overs... 2 is even better.
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Another way you can effectively distribute your bowling is by not opting for bowling power play at the start. Once the ball gets older we will have more potential wicket taking bowlers to play with. Bhajji, Zak etc. So slogging won't be easy with older ball.

When Batting side is opting PP whenever it likes, why not Bowling side opts for PP when the ball is soft, say between 31-35 overs? It's not cumpolsory to take Bowling PP just after 10 overs..
Switchblade Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I thought that YUVRAJ bowled much better than Harbhajn yesterday i liked the way how YS was slowing it down thats the way Bhaj should bowl Munafs job was ideal yesterday to bowl in the middle overs thats how it should be

Most captain want to get it done with bowling PP.

When the ball is old you don't really give the ball to Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina and waste it. So try to get as many overs as possible from them when the ball is new. But they cannot bowl inside a power play. Too risky. i meant 10 to 15th over. So delay the power play and use them for a bit. may be upto 20th over. Then once the ball is scuffed back bring back your ace spinners.
ganeshran Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Our main chink is not having an effective 2nd seamer. You cannot bowl an entire opening spell from a spinner. With the new ball, eventually batsmen will come and use their feet against him and hit him around. We need maybe 2-3 overs by a spinner and powerplay and the rest by a seamer other than Zaheer.

Then bring Ashwin in. You shouldn't take bowling powerplay if openers are going berserk. Only England delayed it, they were kind of forced to delay it against Windies. If they have not gone berserk, by all means take it, delaying does not make sense in that case.

Why not use the bowling power play to take wickets. Moment you take out of nowhere in the middle they will think that they have to attack where you can draw mistakes.
yoda Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I think we can open the bowling with zak and ashwin..Give only 4 overs to zak in first spell and then second pacer whp must be munna can complete the bowling power play with 2-3 overs to bhajji in bowling pp then yuvraj from one end after 15 over pp :omg:

I like the idea but its not be tested in crucial games. Too much pressure on bowlers, there might back to back powerplays. Dhoni should think about In and out field for spinners, give them short leg atleast most of the time.
