The ICC will never do something like that. Revenue is their #1 priority and Lorgat even went to the extent of undermining the Bangalore lathi clashes as something 'minor'. Even then, I don't think the fans themselves would want such a thing. Tennis and football matches elsewhere are in full swing too, so I don't see why the WC should be stopped. Perhaps a minute or so of silence would be more apt.

And how will stopping the wc help Japan? What about the inconveniences caused to people who are going to watch the matches. Why not stop everything. People shouldn't go to work either

Where were you when Tunisia revolted? Or Egypt and Libya? What about the current oppression in Bahrain? Saudi govt is renting its military personal to bomb Bahrain civilians. All that doesnt matter less than a natural disaster affected rich country? If every sports event takes a week off due to people dying, there would be no sports event in the world.

I agree with DM. Although Cricket is not a big global sport as yet, this is a sort of global event. It's not some random tournament. A WC should represent the entire world. So yes, at least a minute of silence wouldn't do harm. Also, same applies for Christchurch disaster. PS: But I don't think there is a need to stop it for a week though.

There is a world of a difference between having a minute of silence and stopping the tournament for a week.

apples and oranges. total people dead in all revolts so far ~ 200 confirmed dead in japan:5000 and counting displaced in japan: 400,000 Not that stopping WC will do anything though

On the contrary, such natural disasters are more reason that people take their minds off by indulging themselves in sports and recreation. If we bring the world around to a halt every time something unsavory happens, then pretty much the only thing we can ever do is to sit in the corner of our rooms with our hands on our heads.

How about the ICC & BCCI donate some of the WC profits ? Win-Win for all ?
If they have spare money to donate, let them donate it to Indian charity organizations first. We have enough of our own to take care of, we can worry about the world later on.

^^ I cannot disagree to that. However i'm sure many others here including yours truly have a soft corner for Japan. They are one of the biggest donors of aid to the developing/third world, giving billions every year. The ICC donating money might be stretching it but i hope our govt does help them. We donated $25 mil to our western neighbor last year after all.
