ViruRulez Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 The highest total run scorer in the last 3 of the 4 world cups has been our batsman. In 1996, it was Sachin with 523 runs in the 1996 Cricket World Cup at an average of 87.16, making him the highest run scorer in the 1996 World Cup and setting the then record for the highest runs by any player in a single Cricket World Cup. In 1999, it was Dravid with 461 runs at an average of 65.85 that too in the tough English conditions. He was the second batsman after Mark Waugh to score back-to-back hundreds in the World Cup. It was his first world cup but he broke several World Cup records in his first world cup itself. In 2003, it was Sachin again and he broke his prevous record of the highest runs by any player in a single world cup by scored 673 runs at an average of 61.18. We also had the second highest run getter with Ganguly scoring 465 runs at at average of 82.30 In terms of highest wickets , in the 1996 world cup we had Anil Kumble as the highest wicket taker in the world cup with 15 wickets at an average of 18.73. The next closest we can to highest wickets was in 2003 world cup when Zaheer was the fourth highest wicket taker in 2003 WC with 18 wickets at an average of 20.77. 1996 world cup was the last world cup where we had both the highest run scorer and highest wicket taker in the same world cup. Hope that we again achieve the feat again in this world cup. In terms of batting, Veeru and Sachin are still near the top. As of now, we are looking good for the highest run getter if all is well. But the 9th position is a big deceptive as he is on 12 wickets whereas the second highest wicket taker Robin Peterson is just two wickets again with just two wickets more than him and having played one more match than Zak too. Hopefully Zak should climb to at least 2nd position and also narrow the gap with Afretard if all is well. The only other bowler who has left one match in the group stage in that list is Roach with 13 wickets. If we go to the final (fingers crossed) then we should be able to play more matches and so get more chances at increasing the numbers. If Pakis get knocked out then Afretard would also be out of competition soon for the top wickets. Anyways thought of creating this thread as nobody seems to be tracking the top runs and wickets in this world cup though we have been quite dominating in the run scorer fields in the last few world cups at least.
ShahidAfridi Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Just make this thread simple Forget averages and strike rates. 2 columns one for most runs and matches one for most wickets and matches played
Ranvir Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Providing India get to at least the semis then Tendulkar will again be top scorer. Being top scorer was a good achievement for Dravid in 1999 as India didn't even make it to the semis.
ViruRulez Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 Providing India get to at least the semis then Tendulkar will again be top scorer. Being top scorer was a good achievement for Dravid in 1999 as India didn't even make it to the semis. Hopefully. I would have wanted Veeru to also race for the top scorer with Sachin as both are marching equally strong but it seems Veeru might have to rest in tomorrow's match as he has the knee problem. Then he might lose a bit in the race unless he again hits another 150 in the quarters. :P Dravid undoubtedly did an exceptional job in 1999 considering that we did not even make it to the semis and so he played a couple of matches lesser than his competitors. Not to mention that he made it in the difficult English conditions and he was not even a complete regular in the ODI side at that time.
jibranpatel15 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 i think it will be ABD or AMLA . ABD has scored 306 runs in 4 inns & is the only middle order Batsmen to be in top 6 list. AMLA is a big occasion player he always scores runs in big matches so i ecpect him to score atleast 2 100's out of 3 matches [i.e QF,SF & FINAL].
akshayxyz Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 ..... Hopefully Zak should climb to at least 2nd position and also narrow the gap with Afretard if all is well. vvvslaxman Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 3 out of top 4 are Indians :yay: 2nd highest wicekt taker Zak :yay:
ViruRulez Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 Sachin on 464 runs and only 3 runs behind Dilshan who tops the chart and 47 runs ahead of Whingakara .. hope he overtakes Dilshan in the final and Whingakara does not overtake him Zak also on 19 wickets and just 2 wickets behind Afretard. He has virtually no competition behind if he can take the 3 needed wickets in the final to become the highest wicket taker. Bring the WORLD CUP this time as well the HIGHEST WICKET TAKER and HIGHEST RUN GETTER .. bring all the accolades this time which we have been doing partially till now in the past :cheer:
glogirl Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 i have a feeling that both the higest run scorer and the wicket taker for this WC is gonna be indians. may be zak could have a tie with shahid afridi
Andy Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Zak our greatest performer[bowler] in Wc's ever? 18 wickets in 2003, 19 in 2011, dont remember about 2007, must have taken 3-4 too.
glogirl Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Zak our greatest performer[bowler] in Wc's ever? 18 wickets in 2003' date= 19 in 2011, dont remember about 2007, must have taken 3-4 too. i think zak is one among the top 10 highest wicket taker in world cup. javagal srinath has taken 44 wickets in 34 matches
zaheer Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 i think zak is one among the top 10 highest wicket taker in world cup. javagal srinath has taken 44 wickets in 34 matches Zak have taken 42 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 19.76 and SR of 26.9!!
glogirl Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Zak have taken 42 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 19.76 and SR of 26.9!! that makes him no. 6 i guess. if he takes 2 more wickets he will be no.5
kabira Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Dilshan's run came from minnows whereas Sachin and Sangakarra have scored quality runs against top teams.
ViruRulez Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Dilshan on 500 and is 36 runs ahead of Sachin .. Zak is on 20 wickets and one behind Afretard .. so chances are quite high in both cases hopefully if Zak performs well in his second and third spells and Sachin bats for at least a 50 today
therocky Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Every world cup we would have had highest run scores and wicket taker too if it weren't for the Australian racist b**** Mcgrath
ViruRulez Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Whingakara ends with 465 total runs in his kitty and only one above Sachin.. no more competitors for Sachin now .. Sachin needs 37 runs to become highest run getter .. hope he plays steady and makes the 37 runs at least though I would like the 100th century more
ViruRulez Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Zak now on 21 wickets and tied with Afretard .. one more wicket needed to become the undisputed leader
akshayxyz Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 ZK is definitely gonna overtake retardi. We need a good half century from Sachin.. and that should be perfect end to the WC. Best batsmen, bowler, allrounder, captain.. and WC.. we want all..:hitler:
ViruRulez Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Neither Sachin nor Zak could get to the respective titles .. it seems luck is not on our side today .. no positive signs for us in this final match .. we are losing today guys to be frank .. lady luck not on our side but on Lady Jaya's side
