How do we take early wkts?

So far in the world cup we have neither curbed our opponents' scoring rate and neither took early wkts. I can understand you won't be able to take wkts every game but so far we have played 6 games and except Ireland, where we took 2 wkts in the first 15 overs, we haven't taken more than 1 wkt in the first 15 overs. No matter how great a batting team you are but if you give away runs nearly at the rate of 6 an over and don't take wkts in the first 15 overs you are not likely to win many games which has been proven so far as we have struggled against all the major Test nations - Eng, SA and now against WI. We have simply way too many shortcomings and don't really see how we can cover so many cracks.

I guess we need to bring him back. Even though he may go for runs, he at least looked like picking wkts in the only game he played. He was unfortunate to have so many edges go to the boundary and based on what we've seen he's our best bet.

Here's what I see... 1. Our pacers can't take wkts with new ball 2. Our spinners can't contain in the middle overs and neither are they attacking enough to take wkts 3. Other than Zaheer our best bowler so far has been a part-timer - Yuvraj 4. We don't have anyone to turn to at the death as other than Zaheer none of our bowlers can bowl yorkers or contain the batsmen 5. On top of that we don't appeal even if we get the batsman out - happened twice with Strauss against Eng and once today with a run-out I don't really know what a "safe score" is for us as I don't think even 350 will guarantee us a win against a decent batting lineup.

We have to take a risk and play sree and go with five bolwers 2seamers and 3 spinners,Time has come for drastic measures,It will not only improve our fielding but batting chawla, aswin in lower order could also add a few runs.

The problem is None can Move the Ball, which is Important to Take Early wickets. Bowlers have natural swing, just wonder what this Jokers are Made of.

Some Indian myths are getting busted in this world cup: 1. Keeping the ER low = wkts .... just bowl line and length and things will take care of itself (also getting the line and length constantly right is not that easy) :hysterical: 2. Spinners (dart throwers and pie chuckers) are our strength :hehe: (We should NOT play 2+2 on a flat pitch with the kind of spinners that we have. 2+2 is usually good on a turner) 3. The perceived usefulness of 7th batsman :haha: Appears as if we are playing the WC to build confidence of other teams and get them into form :giggle: We need to play bowlers who can make it happen for India. The guys who can bowl that wkt taking ball out of nowhere to turn the game. People who can get the swing and reverse swing going. The 3 bowlers who have the ability to bowl wkts taking ball in our squad are: Zak, Sree and Ashwin. They should play with other bowlers revolving around them, trying to block their ends up, etc. The way forward: 3+1+ part-timers or 6+3+2 .... we need to get the balance right in the KO :nice:

Its idiots on forum who talk about economy rate ,where as anybody who has ever played cricket at anylevel knows wickets will win matches not economy rates.

The moment someone who can bowl wkt taking ball comes in, the game looks a little different as shown by Zak. We need to do this more often! :nice: .... Can't allow the spinners to set the game up for the opponent
