AB is an actor. Interacting with different kinds of people and showing empathy is his forte. Its not fair to compare SRT with those same expectations especially when SRT's claim to fame is a different set of abilities altogether. He could be a comple introvert and still bring joy to millions of people through his cricketing shots even if not through personally in touch with them You are extrapolating AB's interaction with one person in a controlled environment to his general persona and greatness while interacting with a billion individuals. While not casting the least bit of shadow on AB's talent, SRT does not have the luxury of operating in an environment where the interests of all the other participants is aligned with the show or movie doing well. OTOH in SRT's case, all the other participants are hell bent on making sure he doesnt do well in the match on that particular day. With each big score the pressure and the expectations increase.

^^^ I'm not talking about your nation. :P Though I've heard that there is a registered AB fan club in Arkansas also these days.
Would AB have same effect on Rajni or even Mohanlal fans :winky:

Bump!!!!!! This post is mainly directed to MTC. Generally, I give KBC a complete miss, because I'm never home and also because my GK is so bad that it becomes embarrassing to watch the episodes. :embarassed: I happened to catch the episode today. It started off with Amitabh continuing the game from yesterday, with a contestant called Yusuf Mulla, who is from some small town in Rajasthan and who is also a paraplegic. AB could empathize with this guy, without making him feel sorry for the conspicuous show of sympathy. This is what AB brings to the table- an ability to connect with every Indian, to share their griefs, to laugh at their jokes, to make small talk with them, to make them the star, and also make them feel completely at ease. AB was just as good with the next contestant-a telephone operator from Kolkata. These people are able to connect to AB irrespective of their regional or religious or economic backgrounds. And AB has that effect on these people: he makes them pour their heart out. In spite of being a big time SRK junkie, I would say that SRK wasn't even fractionally as good as AB. That is mainly because SRK just doesn't have that kind of mass appeal, across classes and regions. You have to see these episodes. ( In the link below, see the episodes dated Sep 14th and Sep 15th http://www.setindia.com/kbc/videos_kbc_2011.php Touching stuff. And tell me if you think Tendulkar will ever be able to connect to the people of India like AB? Will a crab fisherman from AP have tears in his eyes just being overwhelmed at having a chance to share stage with Tendulkar? Will a primary school teacher from Assam answer the phone with an unabashed glee when Tendulkar is on the line? AB means more to the people of India than Tendulkar. Thats the broader point that I'm trying to make. A hundred years from now, its AB and his antics which will be better remembered by the people of this country than Tendulkar and his 100s.
yes. In fact I'd say Goddy connects to with the people much more than any film star can ever hope to do. AB doesn't have the power to bring an entire nation to a standstill. I can tell this by experience - I've seen streets and malls and markets empty when he is batting. Many, many times I've seen students of my college (including me :--D) come to college in the morning and then by the time Goddy comes out to bat, you can see half the class missing - everyone has gone to watch his batting!!! The sheer joy he brings to his supporters through his performances cannot be compared with acting in movies (though that also is a very difficult job). But one thing I must say - AB is doing an outstanding job as the anchor of KBC and probably nobody in bollywood can do a better job with this show than AB. I make it a point never to miss a single episode of KBC (can't say the same about his movies though :winky:)

AB is an outstanding host. SRK was good, but he cannot connect with the audience like AB can. As for SRT vs AB, you gotta realize that SRT is a sportsman, and his appeal is more limited in the sense that he has a predominantly male fan following. At the same time, AB's fan following is both male and female. But at the same time, SRT will have a far greater appeal amongst the youth (50% of indias population is under 25.)

I can tell you of a litchee farmer from Bihar, who has cycled all the way around the country to watch sachin bat (link)or about a 86 year old woman whos life's biggest wish was to meet sachin (link), or about the terminally ill kids (link) or about the jeweler from Thiruvananthapuram who made a world cup from gold to gift to SRT (link) or about the .... (i can go on...)

With Sachin the wieght of expectations of 1.2 billions a huge pressure in itself. People do not expect every Amitabh movie to be a hit. Even his die hard fans wouldnt care much if a AB didnt act well in a one-off movie or he was made to wear some horrendous jack sparrow costume. But with Sachin, even the most casual watcher expects him to excel every time gets on the field. To manage such expectations and love, yet remain humble in attitude is a true hallmark of Sachin's greatness
:two_thumbs_up: :nice:   :agree: :icflove:

Just goes to show that Sachin's appeal is to the whole nation' date= while Amitabh is more or less the hindi speaking/understanding populace.
To all that love cricket(most of India) yes, but there are some aunties who dont like cricket and they would rather watch SRK crying on tv :giggle:

i think most here will be biased towards sachin since we all love cricket but many people out there don't or might consider other things a lot more important. But even if you dont watch or like cricket you cant deny that Sachin is one of the greatest indians living right now

Rahaman won Oscars for what? Jai Ho song. Who in right mind will say that it was best song he ever composed. Infact it isnt even among his best top 20 compositions. So concept of awards as measurement of someones greatness is just crap. Awards are just a measure of influence a person holds in that special circle. So for me AB and Rajani are just better. Way better than any of those hollywood Oscar winning stars. Honestly my eyes were moist when I saw Sachin lifting the cup but I was tearfull when I saw Manjit kaur winning 4X400 mtres gold. Special mention should go to finance minister Man Mohan Singh who has managed to change the course of Indian economics and actually improved lives of several millions of Indians. Anand,Kalam are all great. But to me. I know, I may get get into a brawl when it comes to someone talking crap against Tendulkar. So yeah, I cant argue if Sachin is best among all the above mentioned but I love him most

Comparison between SRT & Amitabh:hysterical: SRT is the undisputed king of an unscripted film where all the action is real , where the actors dont know what they are up to face , where none knows how things will fold up in the coming time , where your first shot has to be your best shot , where you dont get infinite chances to improve your performance , where you are under constant observation of people of your country burdened by there sky-rocketing expectations to do well on that given day , where you are up against an opposition who not only outnumber you but are constantly trying to get the better of you . Is there even a comparison between the two ?
