Rankings mean nothing in ODIs, ask Ponting if he would rather have won the World Cup or been no.1 before he quit as captain. Tests are different, obviously.

I am not sure why Gavaskar and Manju were repeating again and again in commentary that we will be no.1 in ODI rankings too after the WC final win. Not that I care much about the ODI rankings as we are already champions but it is pathetic how the two irritating commies can lie again and again on national television. I thought they were cricket analysts and so would know better and were sure about us marching to no.1 after that match but it turns they were just talking ****. :giggle:

rankings mean everything. they accurately indicate which team has been the most successful over the last 3 years. australia has declined recently, but over the last 3 years they had great results. champions trophy win, series win in india, etc. which is why they are ranked so high. if they keep declining, they will lose the top spot to india, which is fair enough. india should focus on holding top spot in the ODI ranking for the next 4 years.
