Unchanged Windies squad for 3rd Digicel ODI

The WICB Selection Committee has named an unchanged 13 man squad for the Third Digicel One Day International on Thursday April 28th at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The West Indies and Pakistan teams travelled from St Lucia to Barbados today and will resume training on Wednesday April 27th at Kensington Oval before their third ODI encounter on Heroes Day – a national holiday. Pakistan lead the five match series 2-0 after the West Indies took the lone Digicel T20. The Fourth Digicel ODI will be played on May 2nd, also at the Kensington Oval before the series moves to Guyana for the final Digicel ODI (May 5th) and the First Digicel Test. The second and final Digicel Test is scheduled for Warner Park in St Kitts. West Indies v Pakistan, 4th ODI, Barbados Sarwan recalled to one-day squad ESPNcricinfo staff April 30, 2011 Ramnaresh Sarwan has been recalled to the West Indies squad for the fourth one-day international against Pakistan. Sarwan had been one of three senior batsmen dropped following the World Cup, but after some insipid batting which has seen West Indies fall 3-0 behind in the five-match series the selectors have decided experience is required. The squad for the final one-dayer has not yet been announced. Sarwan replaces opener Devon Smith, who has had a nightmare of a series, falling lbw to Mohammad Hafeez's offspin three times, but he is most likely to slot into the middle order which has struggled in the three games to date. Marlon Samuels, who has returned to international cricket, and Kirk Edwards have both laboured against Pakistan's spin bowling and brought scoring to a standstill. Sarwan, who has played 166 one-day internationals, scored 155 runs at 25.83 during the World Cup, and along with Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who is currently involved in a war of words with the WICB, was left out after Ottis Gibson, the coach, criticised the performances of senior players. His return will appease officials in Guyana, Sarwan's home country, who had been angered by his and Chanderpaul's snub. The final one-day international of the series, and the first Test, will be played at Providence. However, due to West Indies' domestic season having finished, Sarwan hasn't had any chance to find form in the middle. Despite having already lost the series there are no further changes to the squad for the fourth match. There were a few bright spots during the third match in Barbados as Ravi Rampaul and Devendra Bishoo almost pulled the game around for West Indies with some impressive bowling. However, the home side just haven't been able to score enough runs. Sarwan will hope to change that. Need to rotate strike to post better totals: Sammy Monday, 02 May 2011 Barbados: Darren Sammy, the West Indies captain, has urged his batsmen to post "bigger, match-winning totals" and singled out the rotation of strike as an area his team needs to improve upon in the fourth ODI against Pakistan in Barbados. The visitors have already taken the series 3-0 but Sammy is hoping to "pull one back" at the Kensington Oval. "Rotating the strike is one area we have to get better at," Sammy said. "If we rotate the strike, that upsets the rhythm of the Pakistan bowlers and that would lead to us posting bigger, match-winning totals. "The 'dot ball' percentage has been high and we need to combat the opposition bowlers. One of our major problems has been that we have not been putting enough runs on the board. As a batting unit we hit a lot of boundaries, but we have to get better at ticking over the strike, especially against the Pakistan spinners." The West Indian batsmen failed to post competitive totals in all three games so far, struggling to score against offspinners Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal in particular. In the first two matches in St Lucia, they were restricted to 221 for 6 and dismissed for 220. They had reached a sound position of 92 for 1 in the 21st over in the third at Bridgetown before they collapsed for 171 all out. The bowlers also managed to take only five Pakistan wickets in the first two matches, but came close to winning the third, in which they took seven. Pakistan were 49 for 4 at one stage before Misbah-ul-Haq steered them to a series-clinching victory. "I can't fault the bowlers," Sammy said. "They have been superb for us and brought us close to a victory in the last match. I believe if we put the runs on the board, the bowlers will do the job for us. We are looking to create winning opportunities and when we do that we have to grab it with both hands." West Indies brought back Ramnaresh Sarwan to the squad after he had been left out for the first three games. Sarwan's previous appearance was the quarter-final defeat against Pakistan in the World Cup. "We know he is a good player," Sammy said. "With him back it is a plus for the team and we wish him all the best. He will be a key player in those middle overs as we look to keep the strike ticking."

11 overs taken away with just difference of 26 runs Windies bowlers bowled well to restrict pakistan to 248 in 50 overs, but with rain coming in, 11 overs taken away and windies require 223 now in 39 overs. A tough ask compared to 248 in 50..
