Shane Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 For Dravid's sake, I hope we manage to win the Test Series in Australia, with or without him.
ganeshran Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Two - Three Idiots running a Page' date=' doesnt make an Entire group Retard.[/quote'] Who called them retarted :dontknow: the word used was vitriolic and I agree with it, Many (not all) dada fans are overly defensive and get aggressive while defending him.
BeautifulGame Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 So when I said Dhoni brought these players. Its selectors job. A captain is as good as his team. IF team is 90, a captain can take it to 95 level, not more than that. I am not saying Dhoni found any player. His work is to handle a team which has been given to him by selectors and give his opinion in selection. Captain's vote is not even counted while selection. According to your logic, why shouldn't we give the credit to Greg CHappel, he brought Raina, MSD, kicked Zak out that made him a better bowler. Under Chappel, we won two big overseas test series in WI and England, but we do not give him any credit too. It means it was the team that did it, not the coach, captain was Dravid. We do not even take Dravid's name. More rubbish . We won the series in England after Chappel was sacked and without a coach. West Indies are hardly a big team nowadays. The only big overseas tour we went under Chappel was to South Africa where we were humiliated

[/quote'] Absolutely wrong, Those days it was differnt, Now we have Selectors who are much more proffesional than it used to be those days. Gannguly Literally Hand picked many players, Fought with selectors , Backed them despite Failures. You seem to be Ignoring Ganguly's contribution with your Intellectual Dishonesty. Ganguly even backed Dhoni, For that you need to read this article. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/cricket-world-cup-2011/off-the-field/Kharagpur-remembers-its-ticket-collector-now-big-ticket-draw/articleshow/7854185.cms
MumbaiIndian Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I totally agree. What we need to understand is that it took us 28 years to build a strong side to win this world cup. recently i read a post by lankan that whatever, India still took 28 years while we won way back in 1996 14 years gap and like it or not, it's true. If you read about Indian cricket history we started as underdogs for years and years. Until we won 1983 our cricket grew like majorly but even when we won we were called underdogs. It was then sachin, dravid, ganguly, jadeja, sidhu and others who came after that winning line up. someone had to make things better for indian cricket and these guys have done a lot and thanks to the BCCI and senior players who has made our dreams come true. without their experience i dont think we could have won this world cup. the selection is done by most of the 1983 winning side. please do not think its just dhoni and his men has brought this world cup. remember we took 28 bloody years. its too long. but am happy we made it and now we have a very very strong side. we took 28 years to build an unbeatable side and the credit goes to each and every one who was there in indian cricket for those 28 years.

DomainK Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 More credit? How much more credit? 10 kilos? 100 miles?
DomainK Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Dada has been instrumental in our win but I have to say some of his fans are the most vitriolic lot  Was very heart wrenching to see Kapil paaji weep though. Precisely.

Andy Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Agree Chappel was sacked but team was same which won in WI too and Captain was Dravid That team was almost 95% the same when Ganguly was sacked.
rkt.india Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Absolutely wrong, Those days it was differnt, Now we have Selectors who are much more proffesional than it used to be those days. Only positive he had was kicking out Seniors and backing youngsters. But he reversed his decision, dropped Raina and some other juniors for 2007 WC and got back slow the Seniors who werent fit for ODI Cricket at that time. And where dont we take Dravid's name? You need to read the OP Properly. Dhoni wont have achived much had not Ganguly, Dravid, Kumble laid the foundation. More importantly Ganguly i feel. I am not crediting or discrediting anyone. I am just telling a captain is as good as the team whether its Ganguly, Dravid, or Dhoni. They can be tactically different, but to apply those tactics they had some of those players to work with and those players delivered because they had the talent. You say Ganguly handpicked those players. To handpick a player, you need to watch FC cricket which is not possible for an Indian captain because of busy schedule. Selectors were there to do that job.
Sid Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 2 players who havent played ODI cricket for last 4 years, deserve credit for our WC victory:cantstop: Do the aussies give credit to Mark Taylor for their WC victories,no they dont,it happens only in India

You need to go through the article I have mentioned in my post. Without watching how one played, no captain can back a Player at the international Arena. Ganguly was well aware of the Talented Lads backed them, most came off and they made big some didnt. So credit to Ganguly for the foundation of Team India that started after the match fixing scandal in 2000.

rkt.india Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 That team was almost 95% the same when Ganguly was sacked. so does it mean? It is team which is more important. Ganguly was sacked because of controversies between him and Chappel during Zimbabwe tour and after that. Board backed Chappel than, not Ganguly, that was a wrong decision and ganguly was not in form with the bat i think at that time, that was another reason for it.

Because the Team built by Ganguly and led well by Dravid deserve the credit there. And Ganguly was sacked for his Non performance for the last 3 years, Controversy was not the reason. There have been several times when controversy took place between the Captain and the coach, But no one was sacked.
Andy Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Edited :D Not sure that you have edited it properly. Rahul last played in 2009 CT and Ganguly in 2007 Nov-Dec IIRC.:icflove:
