Jaffer

Now has a 100 in each of his last 3 away series. Apart from Sehwag, I cannot remember the last Indian opener who came close to such a feat. Make of this what you will. :bebored:

Yes, he plays serious cricket. Jaffer and Karthick should be persisted as test openers in England series. Gambir and Tendulkar should open in One days with Uthappa as backup. Sehwag still may have role to play in One days during slog overs.

Its strange.. he seems to make a lot of very low scores.. and then bang !! a 100 ! happend is SA.. and now its happening here.. in BD.. hope he comes back tomoro to complete his 200.

He is a flat track specialist, but then, who in this Indian team isn't? All his tons have come on featherbeds. When the ball is moving, he won't last longer than a snowflake in hell.

stylish to watch when he connects - a less inconsistent version of my anti- hero, ajit agarkar. i fear for him in england - even harmison is capable of getting him out.

He is a flat track bully, but that is okay as long as you are sure of yourself and know where your off-stump is. Jaffer has plenty of experience and knows how manage an innings; his conversion rate is superb. One of the first names on the team sheet for me. The Indian team hastily dropped him during the '02 tour even though he had scored a classy 50 at Lords while wickets were tumbling all around him.

Same can be said about Sehwag too, infact more than half our batting lineup. I wouldnt hold that against him. Jaffer has shown that he has the temperament for big ones. His technique is decent. He is a frequently a victim of his own premeditated shots (like him getting bowled while leaving, getting out to a late pull in SA off a short ball). He will mature with experience. We must stick with him.

Jaffer has definitely solved half the opening problems..... a double century in windies, a century in SA... not many of our openers have done it IMO..... he can atleast claim to replace Sidhu, if persisted with.... he has a good 4 yrs of cricket left in him.... he will end up as a decent test batter with 5000 runs and 15 centuries averaging around 42.... Regarding Karthik, he is future captaincy material.... i will bet my bottom dollar on tht..... if he has to be persisted as an opener to keep him in the team, do so... however we can fit him, we must....

^^I dont know if he's a captaincy material, but Karthik Mark II, has done well so far, no doubt. But he must learn to score BIG once he is set. Has not scored a 100 yet after crossing 50 so many times.

Bumps.... how many test batters, u know in the last 10 yrs have debuted and performed better in the same number of opportunities.... considering the oppositions and situations where he has impressed....

But his only real test was in SA. Banglastanis are no more competitive than our domestic cricketers. For now he has sealed his spot. I'll wait till i watch him against English bowlers to pass any further judgement on him.

Dhonds man... tht was under the belt... i wasnt looking.... ;) will write a detailed post on tht later.... but have confidence on my horse till then

Conditions and oppositions ? Bangar scored a fifty on a green-top at Headingley, Das got fifties against Australia and in SA, Dasgupta saved India a test at Port Elizabeth and had a test hundred to his name. Karthik, by comparision, has done nothing more than either of these guys

u mean, a match where everyone's mama scored a hundred?? Das was good material, but didnt have the mental strength.... he went the manjrekar way, getting too much into his own technique.... Dasgupta.... bwahahaah..... have him in ur team...cos no one else wants him....
