EnterTheVoid Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Recently, I started flying on a fairly regular basis and have been thinking about nabbing myself one of these. I know noise cancelling headphones are top notch in noisy environments (e.g. long haul flights) but are pretty much comparable to your normal headphones in day to day use ... but still, are they worth getting? I am not interested in reading tons of technical info, just wanna know user experiences and whether these things are worth it. These things cost an absolute fortune so some proper feedback would be appreciated. ---- Long story short, this is how they work:

So I bought those headphones, totally worth it :nice:

I mean, the sound of the engine pretty much drowns out the cabin noise with a constant droning noise and your basic headphones are pretty much useless ..

I bought the Sony MDR NC7 and they work really well for what I need them for. These headphones are 84% noise canceling and would cancel people talking in the background. These headphones are the cheapest noise canceling headphones out there and serves my purpose. I would recommend you look into Senheiser for the best quality noise cancellation out there for air plane engines.
EnterTheVoid Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 The noise made by air craft engines becomes a major irritant if you fly on a regular basis. The noise downs out the entire cabin and normal Mp3 headphones are practically useless when it comes to blocking engine noise. Since noise cancelling headphones at least block out a portion of the noise, it may not be a bad bet to buy these, put on your favorite tracks and get some rest on the flight. These things can be ridiculously expensive but I got some interstate and over seas travel planned this year, so am wondering whether these are worth the money.
Stuge Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 They are only worth if you listen music where there is too much of out side noise .otherwise normal headphones are way much better.like airplane etc . At present I use Sennheiser HD650.

I found the in-ear phones painful and the standard over-the-head ones much more comfortable. There are two things to consider - how good is the cancellation, and how good is the sound reproduction. I found that the Senns produced "better", but that the Bose produced the amount of cancellation and quality of sound I am most comfortable with. I had the QC10s and lost them, and now have the QC15s. For the best sound, pair them with a headphone amplifier, and remember to carry a spare battery

I think they dont have thaaaaat much utility, but are good to have if you enjoy listening to music. I know a lot of people hate bose for being overpriced and all that, but I like them because they are the most comfortable out there. What use is a pair of headphones if you feel you are carrying a matka on your head? :hmmmm2: . The new models are really very good. I prefer "around ear" models as compared to "in ear" or "over ear" models. BTW , Goddy uses bose. Yuvraj uses beats by dr dre

One headphone I've had, when you turn on the noise cancelling feature on, it seems like all it does is merely turn the volume up. How dodgy is that? I mean, if you listen for prolonged periods at high volumes, you're gonna go deaf. Also, any drawbacks from listening to these for prolonged periods? Ringing sensation in the ear or anything to that effect?

cowboysfan Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I agree with VVS,go with Audio Technica ATH-ANC7B.The Bose QC does a better job of noise cancelling but the sound is terrible. edit-AT might have come up better NC headphones,do some research .
