Nice teams' date=' whens the match?[/quote'] 6 test match series, 3 during the Diwali festival in Oct/Nov 2011 in Ind and 3 in Australia. The first test in Australia will probably be on the boxing day Venues and dates will be finalised soon :icflove:

With both Kapil and Imran there, perhaps you do not need Mankad there. Waqar/Kumble would be the logical replacements and pick them depending on where the matches are being played. Even VVS over Miandad/Inzi is a surprising choice, but then thats your team, your choice!

@rett- Could you please xplain what VVS,Kapil and Mankad are doing in this team. I would any day pick Miandad,Waqar and Kumble/Bedi over these 3.

I replaced Laxman with Miandad and Mankad with Waqar and simmed a Test Match between the two sides. Turned out to be a thriller of a game! :--D Check out the scorecards!

VVS vs Miandad VVS ----> super crises man, exceptional batting in 2010-11, can play on all types of surfaces, good record against Aus (5 australians in RoW team) Miandad ----> a brilliant batsman but I don't know how he did outside Pak against good attacks. Also had a poor record against WI (and AT bowling attack has 2 WI quicks, along with Lillee) My pick: VVS Kapil vs Waqar At their best both of them are pretty good. Kapil adds to the team for both his exceptional batting and fielding. Good bowling record against WI (career best figs against WI) and in Australia. And you can't have an asian 11 w/o Kapil :winky: My pick: Kapil (one of the greatest cricketers of AT) Mankad vs Bedi/Kumble/spinners Vinoo Mankad to me is probably the most complete all-rounder from the subcontinent. He can open the batting (and score a double 100), play in the lower order and bowl LFS. In terms of versatility, he is probably the best from the sub-continent. And he was big figther too, he would give his best all the time (actually slept on the benches outside stadiums to play cricket) and win games on its own. The reason why Ind was competitive in its early history was because of players like Mankad. Only if we had a few more Mankads My pick: Mankad :hatsoff:

It will be interesting to see bowling performances of the following in Australia: - Kapil - Imran - Akram - Waqar

Jaisuiriya for Sehwag Only one of Kapil or Imran Waqar to replace on of them

Like most here, Id drop Laxman, replace him with Miandad. Also youre spot in re: Mankads quality, a great. However that side bats a bit too deep really, Kumble is a better bowler. Kumble/Murali would be a pretty awesome spin combo, in subcontinent anyway. And again like most here... would replace Kapil with Waqar. How about the same excercise for ODIs... Tendulkar Ganguly Sangakarra Dravid Inzamam MSD © Kapil Dev Wasim Akram Saqlain Mushtaq Muralitharan Waqar perhaps a touch bowler heavy... vs Gilchrist M Waugh R Ponting V Richards J Kallis B Lara M Hussey S Warne C Ambrose Jennifer Garner G McGrath

@rett am not exactly sure about laxman, mankad and sanga instead of laxman i had rather take hanif mohammed or mohd yousuf and instead of mankad, i am sure we can find osme quality batsmen like may be aravinda de silva or attapattu or ranatunga and give the gloves to dravid ;) and instead of sanga, i might want azharuddin in any comments ?

Id just say that an out and out spinner- Kumble -would add more bite to the attack than Mankad. I guess Kapil/Waqar is a close one, only because you can argue that a deep batting lineup would be pretty useful...if they were playing in Aus both would play- Imran, Kapil, Wasim, Waqar, Murali In India- Imran, Kapil, Wasim, Kumble, Murali

The thing abt AT11 is that you are choosing from a bunch of talented cricketers so usually you can't go that wrong by picking one over the other and many times the selection is more abt which player makes you feel more comfortable and confident For MoYo, you may need to chk his performances against top sides like Aus and SA, esp away from home. If I am not wrong, he doesn't avg even 40 against them. De Silva is not a bad pick. He was a gusty player. I am not sure abt either Attapatu or Ranatunga and giving gloves to Dravid as one drop catch = trouble. Mankad's selection may look strange but make no mistake, he was probably the most complete all-rounder to come out of the sub-continent. He did well with both bat and the ball at the same time, iirc. He was pretty gusty player and one of the reasons why Ind was competitive in its early history.
Mankad's best performance was against England at Lord's in 1952. In the first innings he top-scored with 72. During England's first innings, he bowled 73 overs and took 5 wickets for 196 runs. In India's second innings in that Test match, he top-scored again with 184 runs out of India's total of 378. Though England won the game easily, Mankad's all-round performance salvaged India's pride in a series where they were heavily overmatched. Mankad was the first player in more than 30 years to score a 100 and take five wickets in the same Test and the first Indian to achieve this feat. Also memorable was his role earlier in the same year against England in Madras. He took 8/52 in England's first innings and 4/53 in the second helping India beat England for the very first time in a Test match. In 1956 he hit 231 against New Zealand at Chennai and together with Pankaj Roy established the world record opening partnership of 413 runs which stood for 52 years. His score was a Test record for India at the time and would remain so until it was broken in 1983 by Sunil Gavaskar.
