Cricketics Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 Didn't we win that series 2-1? Ya just. One game got rained out. But we were far from being good. We faced a big defeat too in 2nd match and never looked that good. Remember Windies were pathetic that time and we should have won 3-0 or 4-0 that time considering how strong we were and were doing pretty good in Odi's.
Sooda Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 ^^I remember that. Vijay and Badri toured then and so did Nayyar. Id still agree with sending a total 2nd string XI for the ODIs and T20s. The result is almost unimportant tbh, compared to the main guys getting some rest. Frankly with Gayle, Chanders and Sarwan not there anymore even our 2nd XI should give them a stern test. Tests- my ideal XI Vijay, Gambhir, Laxman, Tendulkar, Sehwag (if unfit, Kohli), Pujara, MSD, Zaheer, Bhajji, Santh, Munaf Ishant, Rahane, Kohli/Mukund, Ojha,

But as you picked Gambhir there. Yes.. We definatley someone like Gambhir there all the time.
cowboysfan Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 I have no confidence in Vijay but he needs another do or die series.pujara ,raina and vijay should be persisted .If viru doesnt play then rahane needs to start his test career GG vijay dravid sachin pujara vvs dhoni bhajji zak ishant sree munna, ojha, raina, rahane
jaideep Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 how abt sending over some fresh bowling legs like A.mithun , undakat ,umesh yadav ,Vaurn aaron and maybe even give ashwin a chance in test cricket
Cricket Tragic Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 how abt sending over some fresh bowling legs like A.mithun ' date= undakat ,umesh yadav ,Vaurn aaron and maybe even give ashwin a chance in test cricket No, just no.
Karan114 Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 I have no confidence in Vijay but he needs another do or die series.pujara ,raina and vijay should be persisted .If viru doesnt play then rahane needs to start his test career GG vijay dravid sachin pujara vvs dhoni bhajji zak ishant sree munna, ojha, raina, rahane Would agree with this squad except I'd be taking Kohli ahead of Raina. Rahane should go but I suspect it'll be Mukund as he was the reserve opener against the Aussies when Gambhir got injured. I share your opinion of Vijay but as you say, he will tour.
Cricket Tragic Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Is it a given that Sehwag is going to miss the tour? Don't care about him missing a series against a piss poor WI but I want him to play in England.
ViruRulez Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 My Ideal squad Gambhir Sehwag Dravid Tendulkar Laxman Dhoni Vijay Pujara Kohli/Yuvraj- Would love to see Kohli. Equally want Yuvi to get chance since he is full of confidence Harbhajan Zaheer Ishant R.P Singh Munaf Praveen Kumar Good squad but I would replace RP with Sreesanth and replace PK with a spinner in Mishra/Ojha/Ashwin .. did you notice that you did not select even one spinner except Bhajji .. I would also give the chance to Kohli instead of UV .. UV is great but his style of playing will never make much impact in tests whereas Kohli has a great potential to be a good test batsman too.
jairamesh Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Tests XI Sehwag Gambhir Dravid Pujara Laxman Dhoni (cpt/wkt) Harbhajan Ishant Sharma Sreesanth Umesh Yadav Gony/Dinda/Chahar ODI XI Sehwag Yusuf Pathan Gambhir Kohli Yuvi Raina Dhoni Harbajan/Ashwin Umesh Yadav Ishant Sharma Munaf T20 Uthappa (wkt) Gambhir (capt) Rayudu/Kohli Raina Yusuf Pathan S. Tiwary R Jadeja Ashwin Umesh Yadav Dinda Balaji Tendulkar, Zaheer (Rest) We need to use this series especially the tests to pinpoint (and nurture) the potential long-term fast bowlers. Zaheer is playing a swangsong, (1 more year left!), Sreesanth should be left to his own realms and he will perform rather then interfering. Sharma is looking good. I think the focus should be on the likes of Yadav, Dinda, Varun Aaron to get them to bowl consistent line and lenght, they already bowl 150km/hr plus regularly on indian pitches.
vijay810 Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 No way. Pujara deserves more of a chance. You can't drop him just yet. Agree that Badrinath deserves a go but Kohli has leapfrogged him in the pecking order. Pujara is class act.....Stick with him for long time andit will pay off. Also Rahane. These two will be the backbone on Test match team in 4 years time
Cricket Tragic Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Haha, there is no way that Tendulkar will or should rest from test matches unless he has an injury. 1 month break after the IPL is good enough.
Cricket Tragic Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Am I the only one who doesn't rate Badrinath?
jairamesh Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Am I the only one who doesn't rate Badrinath? Badri has been unfortunate, it's a tough batting line-up, but I think he should be in with a chance in terms of squad rotation for Tests and ODI, he has the ideal test match temperament. India should play more test matches and look at squad management, mind you the batting will always perform, it's the bowlers that's a worry. But experience has no substitute. Warne and McGrath didn't hit the the ground running from their first test match.
